Problem with system image
-
Hello, last year I was given an Asus sonicmaster laptop, the first thing I did was create a system recovery disk and then create an image of the system on an external hard drive.
Two days ago, during a Windows update, it got stuck and stayed updating the system all night, well in the end it wouldn't turn on, I put in the recovery disk to recover from the image created but it recovered with the Windows that Asus had when I bought it.
I tried to recover from the image on the external hard drive because I had put some programs on it but I can't, Windows doesn't recognize the image created and I do it with the recovery disk and it doesn't recognize the image either, how can I do this, the Windows is 8. Thank you. -
I don't know if to make those copies, you have used the tools of Windows 8 itself, or some other that came pre-installed on the computer, but if when you recovered/reinstalled last time, you put for example a different name to the computer, it could consider that the images you have saved do not belong to that computer and not show them.
But this is just an idea.

Hello Fassou. Thank you for responding, the laptop was delivered to me new out of the box so that I could install antivirus and other programs and make a backup because it was going to be used by some girls to study.
What I did was install the programs, make a rescue disk and an image of the system, all with the Windows 8 programs themselves, and they were using it until this update problem appeared, as the screen did not go beyond starting up, I decided to reinstall the image, but with or without the recovery disk, it does not recognize the backup image.
So I am installing everything again, but if I do the same thing in the future, it will be the same, that is, the image is not useful for me to restore, or what is it that I have done wrong??.
Thank you. -
In Windows 8 they wanted to simplify the issue of backups, but if you lose the boot as was your case, the first thing you have to do is repair it, because you need to be inside to be able to use the native recovery application
And as they did it so well, in the 8.1 update they changed it again, but I'm not an expert in Windows 8 either, because of the little I had touched it, I try to forget it quickly :troll: and think about the future Windows 10, which we can already touch with our fingers.
Well, to the point.
I recommend that you use another program to make full copies, which could be from Clonezilla, through Macrium Reflect Free (very convenient for hot backups), or Acronis True Image (taking advantage of the license for WD HDD if you have one).

Thanks Fassou. I will follow your advice, I have already installed the programs and made a disk and a system image like before, but apparently I will repeat it with another external program, thanks.
