Up to 5Gbps over CAT5e and 6 cables
-
The NBASE-T Alliance has introduced two new IEEE standards. The new IEEE 802.3bz supports speeds of 2.5 and 5 Gbps over existing CAT5e and 6 cables.
While 10Gbps links were already common in corporate environments, this new standard will bring home and small business environments up to speed, which have been stuck at 1Gbps for nearly 20 years, just before they are caught up in bandwidth by the burgeoning wireless standards.
