The Ericsson brand will disappear from Sony's mobile phones in 2012
-
Sony has revealed that the Ericsson brand will soon disappear from its mobile phones, a decision that comes after the purchase of the Swedish company's 50 percent stake in the joint venture between the two companies was announced in October.
According to Kristian Tear, head of Sales and Marketing at Sony, by the middle of next year, their smartphones will simply be called Sony, a change that will occur after they obtain authorization for the operation with Ericsson.
In this sense, the executive of the Japanese company has announced that the new company that emerges after the farewell of Ericsson will focus exclusively on the manufacture of smartphones.
Tear has also commented that they will deploy a major advertising and marketing campaign next year to make the change in the brand name known to consumers.
The executive has also pointed out that in this new stage where Sony Corp. has full control of the mobile division, that field will benefit from the content and entertainment technology offered by the Japanese parent company.
