HP announces the release of the webOS source code
-
After several weeks of multiple speculations about the future of webOS, HP has decided to make the operating system available to the “open source community”.
The California-based company confirms that they will continue to invest in the development and support for webOS, and they point out that with this decision, applications and web services for future devices can be improved, as the system will benefit from the creativity of the developer community.
The exact date for the release of the webOS code has not yet been given, but HP has made it clear that it will be made available to users soon under a free license.
HP hopes that this measure will mainly attract developers, engineers, hardware designers, and their business partners.
Likewise, Meg Whitman, CEO of HP, assures that this new “open source” project is committed to transparency and has expressed that she wants it to be managed correctly to avoid fragmentation.
Finally, the California-based brand has revealed that it also plans to donate its ENYO platform, a tool oriented to application development, to the “open source community” in the future.
