Microsoft has preferred to be safe than sorry and included within the terms of use of Windows Store the possibility of remotely deleting users' applications.

This rule is also contemplated by Apple and Android in their respective app stores for mobile devices.

The chapter in which this matter is discussed in the Windows Store terms of use is titled “Can Microsoft delete the applications or data on my device?” The answer is clear: “We can change or suspend certain applications or content offered in Windows Store at any time and for any reason.”

After this blunt statement, those from Redmond give as examples the cases in which the user's security is in danger (something that has already happened in the Android Market) or those occasions in which they are “obliged to do so for legal reasons.”

The company clarifies that when it comes to paid content “the amount you paid for the license can be refunded.”

Regarding the data of the deleted applications, Microsoft clarifies that the user is the only one responsible for making backups so that when an application is remotely deleted “its data may be deleted or it may not be possible to recover the data that has been stored.”

Microsoft will present the new Windows Store app store in February, along with the public beta of Windows 8
