Two new dual-core chips for Qualcomm's Snapdragon family
-
Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile processor family continues to grow. The latest chipsets to join the list are MSM8625 and MSM8225, which come with a dual-core CPU at 1 GHz, Adreno 203 graphics module, and integrated 3G connectivity.
MSM8625 and MSM8225 will be available on Qualcomm's third-generation QRD development platform in the first half of 2012MSM8625 and MSM8225 will be available on the QRD platform during the first half of 2012
Both are compatible in hardware and software with the MSM7×27A and MSM7×25A models, so manufacturers will be able to migrate their Snapdragon S1-based designs to the new dual-core S4.
They also support QRD platforms, which allow other device manufacturers to develop differentiated smartphones for the consumer market, with reduced costs and time to market.
In fact, Qualcomm has announced the third generation of its Reference Designs program. In addition to providing the necessary hardware components, applications, and software functions, the American company promotes the production of devices for regions whose networks are evolving from 2G to 3G. That is, where smartphones are becoming increasingly accepted.
“Smartphones represent a great business opportunity,” says Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm's executive vice president of product management. “The QRD ecosystem program combines all the elements that our customers need to get a new smartphone design that can be launched quickly and effectively to the market, from hardware and software ready for operators to local technical support resources.”
