LG and Intel join forces to develop WiDi technology
-
South Korean company LG Electronics has signed an agreement with Intel to use its WiDi technology, which allows HD televisions to connect to computers and mobile devices via Wi-Fi.
The alliance between the two companies will involve working together to promote WiDi technology, which Intel wants to position in a privileged place by making it a standard in the current ecosystem of smartphones and tablets.
In this sense, experts believe that the market for WiDi technology is one in which Intel can have an easier time imposing itself than in that of mobile processors, since it does not have the competition of rivals like Qualcomm or ARM.
Like other data transmission technologies, WiDi allows for transfer to televisions without the need to have Wi-Fi activated, as long as the content is previously stored on the devices.
For this to be possible, the connection is made through a direct link that is established between the Wi-Fi chips that come integrated in the LG Cinema 3D Smart television and those provided by the mobile devices that are used to send that digital content.
