WPS technology, vulnerable to attacks
-
Many Wi-Fi routers use WPS technology; a developer has discovered how easy it is to access the system's PIN.Apparently, the system alerts after checking the first four digits, in case the user is failing. In total, 8 digits are required, so the task of deciphering all the numbers is significantly reduced.
This implies, according to the developer who discovered the vulnerability, that a "brute force attack" (which takes relatively little time) would be enough to know all 8 numbers.
The developer explains through his blog that this security hole could affect millions of devices worldwide to the extent that the most recent models come with the technology enabled by default. The warning to disable and not use WPS as a method of access and identification has already been collected by the CERT (Computer Emergency Readiness Team).
