The meeting has been the prelude to “Más Digital”, an event that began today and brings together more than 2,000 people in Granada around the International Free Software Conference and the Guadalinfo Facilitators Meeting 2012. Participants defended in the Decalogue that free software is going through its best moment in Spain; the companies that believe in and bet on it bring added value, technology and jobs. However, it is considered that there is a gap between the desires of grassroots movements and what is promoted by the Administration in what has to do above all with the “direction of efforts”. They ask that this gap and the boost of free software be minimized. Digital literacy will be a key in accessing open technologies, a fundamental value in a context where concepts such as OpenData, Open Government and the management of electronic identity and privacy become part of everyday life. For the authors of the decalogue, any freedom serves as a gateway to others. The promotion of free software and knowledge goes hand in hand with the liberation of data. In this sense, they assure that technology is not neutral: it implies the cession and acquisition of a series of rights. Thus, user awareness will be vital regarding concepts such as cloud or social networks where the rights of freedom of access and protection of privacy must be combined. Source
