If it won't let you format with the Windows 7 disk, try using a bootable CD like Hirens Boot and try to format with a program like Partition Magic, for example.
I think you won't need to do this, since what I imagine is happening is that you have the NTLDR at all times on the first hard drive, and you need it to boot both the XP on the first drive and the 7 on the second, so a full format of the first drive will create the NTLDR of Windows 7 and allow you to boot with it. Check that you don't have a copy of the NTLDR on the second drive either, or the boot.ini or similar, or that the second drive is not selected in the BIOS as the first boot option in this case.

      Regards

To Bm4n, I have already left only a previously installed and formatted hard drive, and it won't let me do anything; it shows a message about the lack of ntldr and doesn't go beyond that.
For Sylver, that's what I think too; I believe I have it on XP and that's why if I go beyond that hard drive, I get the message, and if I remove that hard drive and try to boot only with the drive where I installed 7, I get the message about the lack of ntldr.
As for completely formatting the first drive (I assume you mean the one with XP), I haven't done that. I have things that I don't want to delete. What I do is disconnect it and set the BIOS to read 1 from the CD and 2 from the empty, already formatted drive where I want to install 7. By doing this, it won't let me, and I get the aforementioned message (ntldr is missing, press ctrl alt del to restart).

let's go step by step, put in the disk that doesn't have XP only, start the Win7 CD and delete the partition of the disk
from the Win7 installation menu, create a new partition and install and that's it

if you get the same error it's because the hard drive you're using has the boot sector messed up and it's not good for primary
          it's only good for secondary

it could also be a memory problem

PD: if they are EIDE disks you have to put the primary bridge on the new one and the secondary one on the XP one
and the end of the IDE cable on the new primary and the middle one on the XP one

          regards

Let's see, do you want to leave the disk with Windows XP intact but intend to remove it? If what you want is to save information, extract it to a USB drive or external disk and then paste it back if you want in Windows 7, but without leaving the 2nd disk as the master or the only one with Windows 7, it is difficult to keep the other operating system running, because it is the reference when booting. To manage that, you would have to create an entry in the boot menu and assign the 2nd disk as the priority.

First, specify if what you want is to save "some files contained in the disk with Windows XP" or if what you want is to "leave Windows XP running".

First, does the W7 installation CD start or not?
Second, is the W7 installation correct and on the disk it should be?
Third, if the installation is correct and on its disk and it is configured as the first one where it starts, the BIOS should work.

I say this because I was understanding that you already had the new OS installed and it wouldn't start and now it seems to me that what you are saying is that you can't install it. Explain everything that happens to you.

From what I deduce from what you're saying, you're not booting from the Windows 7 CD, which is why you're getting the error.

ferelxyx, you tell me (let's go step by step, you put in the disk that doesn't have XP only, you start the Win7 CD and) and I get the message in question and that's it, the disks are SATA, could it be that, (if it gives you the same error it's because the hard drive you're using has the boot sector messed up and it's not good for primary
it's only good for secondary). When I can I'll try with another disk I have, not before this weekend.

Sylver if I want both things to save information and use both XP and 7, I've used XP and Vista before.
and if I did what you suggested to be able to use both systems, although I use XP, I had Vista to see how it was and I didn't get to use it.

Bm4n with the BIOS configured to read 1 the CD 2 the hard drive which is empty and already formatted. I start it up with the CD already in the drive it starts reading and almost immediately the message (this can vary) and that's it it doesn't go any further.

Kernel1.0 if you don't have anything else connected but a hard drive and it's formatted where does it boot from?

                    Regards

It is booting directly from the hard drive, which is what Kernel1.0 says, because if the boot from the CD were well configured, the option to press any key to boot from it should come up.
However, if you managed to install 7 on the second hard drive and it worked well shared with XP, why did you remove the hard drive with XP? It is logical that it would fail you. If you can get both operating systems to coexist, with the boot.ini well edited with the entries corresponding to each operating system and with the boot sector well configured, the rest is just splitting hairs, I think.

first check the status of the disks, with http://www.seagate.com/es/es/support/downloads/seatools/# or similar, if the boot sectors where the NTLR is recorded are corrupted the disk as they tell you is not suitable for primary (maybe making a partition will fix it but I don't think so, because I think it's the first sectors of the disk) if you have an OS installed and install another OS on another hard drive it usually creates a kind of GRUP (or something like that, I got this from UBUNTU ;D) that allows you to choose which OS you want to boot the PC with

Well, what's happening to you is quite simple, it's not booting from the installation CD, try with another disc.

It tries to boot from the empty disk, that's why you get the error, check in the BIOS that you have the DVD drive as the first option to boot, if it still does not work try with another Windows 7 disk

Greetings to all, I hope you can clarify something for me, as I said before, my problem is that I get the message that NTLDR is missing, the solutions they give are to repair the operating system.
What I want is to install a new one, that is, to go from XP to 7, I don't intend to save anything from what I have on XP.
The thing is that if I leave the PC with only an empty disk, I logically get the aforementioned message.
If I leave an HD with XP installed and another empty HD, I can install 7, but when I remove the HD where XP is, it doesn't start up again, the damn message comes out, how do I fix it?

I understand that what he is trying to do is install W7 on top of XP
                                  more clearly here
if following these steps the PC still indicates that NTLDR is missing, I think there are only two options already commented:
A hard drive with the boot sectors damaged
B CD or DVD with corrupted or damaged files

He said that he can't boot the installation CD, he has to check the boot sequence in BIOS and that the disk is correct and bootable. It doesn't matter about the hard drive or NTLDR (which will be missing in the OS that you're trying to replace and NOT repair, which is what your link explains). And please stop putting up links willy-nilly

PD. And if you want to put two systems on two disks, it's always better to install with the other disk disconnected. PD2. I would say that when you remove the disk with XP, the boot sequence doesn't put the CD drive first because otherwise if it boots with two disks it has to boot with one or none, the boot of a CD is completely independent of whether there are disks or not.
