      Hello and happy new year
The problem is really giving me a headache. As the title indicates, it consists of system crashes with these characteristics:

      • There is no blue screen (in Windows 7)
      • If any sound is playing at the time of the crash, it gets stuck and loops.
      • Apparently all devices connected via USB turn off (mouse, keyboard, wifi adapter). The motherboard receives power and the recorder also (you can open the tray)
      • After a few minutes the system restarts by itself.
      • They occur randomly, both on the desktop and in games.
      • They happen both in W7/8 and in Ubuntu 12.04 (less frequently)

      Equipment:

      • Processor: I5 2500K 3.3Ghz
      • Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V PRO
      • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL7
      • Graphics: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5
      • Power supply: Tacens Valeo III 700W 0dB Modular
      • Storage:
–-SSD Crucial M4 128Gb (SATA3 to intel port)
---WD Caviar Blue 1TB (SATA3 also to port)
---2 older HD connected to SATA ports

The problem appeared a few weeks ago, when installing W8 to test it, before that I updated the BIOS and the SSD firmware. None gave problems (apparently). At first I attributed the problems to W8, but when I deleted it and reinstalled W7 Home Premium 64 (original) they kept happening.

I thought it could be the SSD, so I disconnected it and installed it in one of the HD (normal SATA). Same problem in both W7 and Linux.

I also ran a Memtest for just over an hour and everything was perfect.

I have tried several versions of the BIOS (v3402/3603), doing a Clear CMOS after the update, although I have not been able to return to the original (v401) because the updater indicates something like that the structure of the BIOS had changed.

The parts are under warranty but I need to know which one is failing, because it seems logical that it is a hardware failure since it occurs both in Windows and Linux. I tend to think it is a problem with the motherboard/BIOS or the power supply (whose fan almost never turns) but I do not have parts to exchange.

      Any suggestions will be welcome.
      Thanks.

I doubt the source (because of the fan issue). I have a Valeo II 700 with a Phenom 9950 and a GTX 280, plus a RAID 0 with three disks, and the fan doesn't even spin when I want it to (even when I put the whole system under stress). It's true that some Tacens have been bad, but I would be surprised if the problem came from there.
I would go for the BIOS.
        Regards

Have you tried turning off automatic restart to see if any BSOD pops up when it restarts? You can find it in system advanced settings, startup and recovery, settings, "automatically restart".

Franziskaner: At first I was surprised about the fan, but then I read that it is normal for it not to activate.
Krampak: Right now I only have Ubuntu installed and I can't test what you're saying. Anyway, when I had Windows, the system at restart didn't say anything or it showed the menu to boot into failsafe mode.

            Thanks to both of you

as I was telling you, for my computer to activate the fan I have to go through 4 CPU burn and a graphics stress program and my computer consumes a lot more than yours. In this forum and others it has been commented that some tacens fail which is bad, but I don't think that's your problem (although it's true that when they fail they give overvoltage and it could also be that, check in the bios if you have the option of the voltages 9

              regards

Check that the old HDDs are in good health, but it looks like it's crashing because of that power supply.

Do yourself and your computer a favor, and change the power supply, and don't let it be Tacens <:(

                Best regards!

thanks Fassou. The HDDs seem to be fine, at least with Crystal Disk Info the result was good. With Gparted the verification is also positive. I don't know if there is another program more suitable to check it.

In case of changing the power supply, can you recommend me a model that works for my computer and has great reliability?
                  Thank you very much!

I would put this power supply to that team: Corsair TX650 V2 650W 80 Plus Bronze SemiFanless CP-9020038-EU Power Supply
Or a similar one… Corsair, OCZ, Silverstone... between 600 and 700W

                        Best regards

Maybe it's too late but you should try the EHCI hand-off option in the UEFI, which should be where the USBs are, possibly a device you connect via USB has incompatibility and disables it, put it enabled to see if it works for you.

                          regards
