Hello everyone, I have an 8gb sd card and I can't format it on my laptop, because it doesn't recognize the fat32 the internal card reader that comes with the same laptop, and I can't find the solution to this problem, in fact I have downloaded programs like fat32format and some other well-known ones and it still doesn't recognize it, the laptop is an hp with vista home basic. :wall:

New, not new, but what I can assure you is that on other PCs I have, I can format it, even on another laptop with Vista, but not on this one, and I can't find a solution, I have deleted the driver from the device manager and nothing, there is no way for it to pick up the fat32

What operating system are you using? Is it up to date? Have you made sure it is free of malware?

Vista home basic, it's not even 1 hour ago that it just put in 12 updates and I've scanned it 2 times with antimalwares and combofix and nothing

If you have another card, try it. I would say that you try with a live-cd of Linux on that same PC, but it is possible that the card reader drivers are not available for Linux. Still, try it to rule things out.

Well, if it does the same thing with another card, it's probably either a fault in the reader or the reader's controller.

I have already deleted the driver a couple of times and nothing changes, it keeps doing the same thing, the driver is: multi flash reader usb device version: 6.06002.18005.

Try a pendrive to see if it does the same to you.

In the USB, if it recognizes the FAT32, the reader can't find it at all (tested right now with a 16GB pen drive)

Then I recommend that you try a Linux live CD. It's as simple as:

· Downloading an image: ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/Mageia/iso/2/Mageia-2-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-i586-CD/Mageia-2-LiveCD-KDE4-Europe1-Americas-i586-CD.iso

· Putting it on a pendrive with this utility: http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.com/MandrivaLinux/official/iso/2010/mandriva-seed-windows.zip

· And booting from the pendrive.

With that you will rule out a physical problem as long as your reader works on Linux.

In the end, I bought him an external card reader via USB and it formats the card to fat32. Thanks for helping out.
