Overclock P5Q3 DELUXE + QX9770

Hello friends, well I am a newbie and I would like someone to help me when it comes to overclocking my computer. As I have already mentioned in the topic, it is a P5Q3 DELUXE motherboard and a Q9770 3.2ghz processor. I have read on the internet that this processor can go up to 4.2ghz without stability issues, but since I am new to this, I want advice on what I need to increase and how much I can increase it. I know that not all computers are the same, but at least I want a certain range.

Man, this is straightforward. You have a micro with an unlocked multiplier. This means you can set it to 8, 10, or higher. I've seen some reviews with a multiplier of 11, FSB just over 400, and speeds of around 4500.
I would try the multiplier first at 9, to see if the computer starts up. If not, you need to increase the micro's voltage a bit. Keep doing this until you test stability. Then try increasing the multiplier to 10 and with not too much voltage, you should be able to reach 4000.
It's a beast for a Quad Core 775, but this micro is one of the best that came out for that platform, not to mention it's very rare and unknown.
And little by little, adjusting the multiplier and voltage, you'll reach higher speeds. You can also change the FSB a bit to go over 400.
This might not clarify much for you, but if not, there's a guide in the forum for overclocking. With these micros, you had to work at it, not like with many current ones, but it's a good micro.
And I hope you have a cooler to match.

They tell you 8 hours, but if you don't have the right values set, it will blow up in seconds :troll:
Anyway, test it when you manage to overclock it to more than 3600 minimum. Don't overclock it too little and start testing it. It should overclock a little without touching the voltage, and from there, patience, time, trial and error, and start writing down the parameters on a piece of paper to get the hang of the micro.

First test done, multiplied by 9 and putting standard voltages and it's totally stable. I tried raising it to the multiplier to ten but without raising voltage and it gives me blue screens before I can test anything. I guess I have to raise the voltage, but what voltage do I raise? micro? ram?? and how much is usually raised?, that is, from 0.2v to 0.2v until it's stable? -

Start by raising the micro's Vcore. To go fast, raise it all at once if you want 0.5 and from there 0.1 to 0.1 to see if you can get it to start up.
But try not to go over 1.40 - 1.45 to see if you can do it. Let us know if it works, because with 1.45 you should be able to go over 4.000 but... you need a good heatsink. I wouldn't go over 1.45-1.50 not even joking, at least to have the computer working every day.
In principle you may not even have to touch the Ram.

PD: If you see that the micro doesn't go to 4.000 try raising the memory frequency little by little.

You are more interested in increasing the FSB than the multiplier, you can set for example 450 FSB with a multiplier of 9, I'm not sure if it uses a multiplier of 9.5, there were some of those that had an 8.5 multiplier, I think. You will need to adjust Vcore, VMCH and set the memory voltage according to the multiplier you use. Since it's DDR3 1600, you can easily set the memory to a higher frequency or better latency. These 775 processors don't have the voltage limitation that processors from socket 1366 have, so you could put more voltage on the memory to set it to a higher frequency.
It would almost be better to post a picture of the BIOS to see what processor and memory multipliers it has. Although 16 Gb is a lot of memory and it will limit your ability to increase it a bit.This thread might be interesting, it has a 9550 but I think the CPU voltage is too high. Your CPU can use a higher multiplier, you won't need as much FSB.

The configuration it shows has Loadlinecalibration disabled, it would be better enabled. You could put a bit more voltage on NB Voltage, try with less first, 1.30v, if it doesn't boot, increase it a bit, although for 450x9.5 it should be enough.
Sorry for the mistake, 450x9.5 is a lot, I would try first with 9 and CPU voltage 1.35v, it will be 4050 I think. You should make sure that the memory doesn't go up too much in frequency. You will need to set the FSB strap to auto, this will give you more options to set the memory frequency to a speed close to that of your memory.

Thanks for your opinions, I am learning a new world of everything. Now I will tell you how I am doing, because I have managed to reach a stable configuration but the temperature is crazy, over 88/92º C under load. My configuration:
FSB 450
Multiplier 9
RAm 1350Mhz 7-7-7-24
CPu Voltage 1.30v
Nb Voltage 1.10v
Sb Voltage 1.10v
FSB Voltage 1.30vI will put some pictures so you can see my configuration:


I would like to reach those frequencies but with lower temperature. I have tried to lower the CPu voltage and when I lower it from 1.30 it doesn't start. I look forward to your opinion!!!!

Sorry but what cooler are you using? The voltage is not very high, as to give you those temperatures, to be honest, although it is true that the frequency is also high, but at 1.3v… I don't know. Do you install any program like CPU-Z to see when the micro is at maximum speed, what is the real voltage that the board applies.
To give you an idea, my micro is on the motherboard at 1.475... :facepalm: but in Windows it indicates 1.42-1.44. :ugly:
My micro came out lazy and needs a lot of voltage, but I have a good cooler, and the truth is, despite having a lot of voltage it hardly heats up and besides when I'm not playing, the micro doesn't go to 3.200 It only goes to 2.400 because it automatically switches from applying the multiplier 8 to applying the 6.

In the CPU-Z program, it shows the voltage well, under load 1.3 V and at rest 1.28 V. This is my cooler COOLER SILENT KNIGHT. Which cooler do you recommend that is quite acceptable economically and technically? Any other way to lower the temperature without touching the cooler?

That heatsink doesn't seem very good for OC, what I see that you should touch is NB voltage, give it 1.25v and fsb termination if it allows auto leave it in auto, it adjusts itself.
Good heatsinks are expensive, although you could get one second-hand at a good price, some thermalrick, Noctua, although there are others that are good too.
With what program are you raising the temperature so much?
put a screenshot of the advanced memory options that maybe you have to disable some.

The program I use for temperature is "Core Temp". What do you mean by advanced memory options? Where can I find it? I'll look around for some dissipation, I suppose the best brands are thermalrick and noctua, right? I haven't tried increasing the voltages of NB and SB yet, I'll let you know again this afternoon. -
Nothing, not even by increasing the Nb, can I lower the temperature, but by increasing the Nb could I lower the CPU voltage? Which fan do you recommend for this type of overclocking and that gives me good performance when it comes to cooling? I know some fan brands but of course I wouldn't know which model to ask for and surely there will be more than one here who knows what good performance each fan gives.

I'm sorry but I can't help you, I only touch the Vcore, not the other parameters. Anyway, what temperatures do you have without OC? They seem very high for the Vcore you put on it, that's why I'm also not sure if it's because of the heatsink, which, without being excellent, is not that bad.
Can you pass a program like OCCT to put it under stress. Run it for a few minutes (without OC) to see what temperature you reach. If you already have high temperatures with OC, we can think that the heatsink can't handle the micro. But if you have low temperatures without OC, it could be other parameters.

With some OC, which is how I have it now, 400x9 (3600MHz) the temperature is stable at about 60/65ºC at FULL but once I increase the voltage it goes up and of course to increase the frequency I have to put some voltage because it becomes unstable.
