Who is the dead one?

Hello everyone, long time no see!
I'm writing to you because a few days ago I started cleaning up old stuff, and while taking components from here and there I decided to build a test rig. But the PC won't boot, no matter what I do, and having checked all the components, the candidates to be broken are the motherboard, an Asus A8V-E Deluxe, or the CPU, a Venice 3200+. Since I don't have another 939 motherboard or another CPU, I can't easily rule them out.
So my question is if you know of any way, even approximate, to know which one of the two is broken. The rig boots up normally, shows the keyboard lights and turns off with the power button after 4 seconds, but that's it. No image, no speaker beeps, no response to any stimulus.
It's not that I'm too worried, with components that old, but it bothers me to have broken parts stored that won't be useful in a possible repair.
Best regards!!!

Hello NOLDOR, a pleasure to read you again here

Have you checked the memories? I know that if it doesn't beep directly it is very likely to be the motherboard or the micro, but if the micro has not received any blows or suffered any accidents, I could bet that it is perfectly fine and that the motherboard is the culprit. We could also talk about a dead BIOS for some unknown reason…
Do you have any acquaintances or a nearby forum member who can lend you a 939 motherboard? In some second-hand forum you can get one on loan even if it's just for a while.Regards

I have always had the same doubt and I have never found a reliable method to know if the CPU or the motherboard is failing. The most normal thing if the CPU does not have any bent/broken pins is that it is the motherboard since it is much more "easy" to break before the CPU.
I used to leave the heatsink without a fan and see if it heats up. If it heats up you have a 1% more chance that it is the motherboard :ugly:PD: I am glad to see you here!

I suppose you have already taken it into account but just in case, have you done a clear cmos?

hello, I think I have a 939 lapeado at home that I'm not sure if it works :wall: the motherboard is broken, if you want I can send it to you.

Thanks for the answers!
Cobito: yes, clear cmos, battery and other things tried without any change. I even remembered that Asus included an automatic recovery system for corrupt BIOS, but I've been reading it and it seems to be only for when a new bios flash fails, and it's the board that tells you on the screen.
Of the rest, I've been doing more tests: The micro does get hot, and the only difference in behavior is that if I start the board without micro, the fans spin at full power, and if I start it with the micro, they self-regulate xD. But no beeps or image.
So I'm 99% sure it's the board, but I don't think it's worth any effort. The 939 micros are relatively cheap, but the 2nd hand boards, from what I've seen on ebay, are quite expensive. I've even looked at eeprom programmers to flash a new bios, but they also cost a fortune. I'll save the micro just in case and throw away the board.
Franziskaner, thanks for the offer, but it won't be necessary.
Regards!

no problem man ;D it's better for someone to use it than to have it sitting in a drawer.
