Hello!
I have read several posts about installing and optimizing SSDs and although some things have become clear to me, others have not. That is why, citing the drive that will arrive in a few days (OCZ Vector SATA3 256GB), the motherboard (Asus P9X79 Deluxe) and the operating system I plan to use (Windows 8 pro), I would like you to help me draw firm conclusions regarding the steps to be taken after its reception.
-Update SSD firmware if applicable.
-Disconnect the rest of the HDDs
-Check that the drive is connected in AHCI.
-Formatting: Is the “Advanced 4096” type of formatting REALLY necessary? With the “normal” formatting of Windows 8 is it not enough? What is gained by doing so?
-Install operating system.
-Defragmentation: I have read that in Windows 7 it is necessary to disable it, while in Windows 8, it is not. Is this true?
-“Optimizations” such as disabling hibernation, moving PAGEFILE.SYS, Enabling Device Write Cache, disabling system restore, changing the browser cache location to another HDD… Are they really necessary? Is any REALLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED?
-Install the rest of the computer's drivers.
-Is it advisable to change the location of user folders/files?
-Perform performance tests with AS SSD, ATTO and Crystal DiskMark. Save values.
-Perform “Secure Erase SSD” once or twice a year in case of evident performance drop.In short, as you can see, I am somewhat lost, and although I have read a lot about it, there are things that I do not understand. I would greatly appreciate some clear explanation for someone not very familiar with this technology.
Greetings and thanks in advance!
