Hello everyone and first of all thanks to those who help me.

I'll tell you about the PC I have:

      OS: XP
      Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard (PCI-E 2.0 x 16)
nVidia GeForce GTX 280 graphics card
      2 GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.60 processor
      800w power supply

The thing is that the graphics card has crashed and doesn't work and the intention is to change it for a current one but not too much for the old computer I have. A new one but that gets the most out of it and doesn't take advantage of it 100% just because it has an old motherboard and processor.

I had thought about the following but I'm not sure if maybe it's too much:

Asus GTX 460 but I see that it's already discontinued.
or the GTX 550 TI or 560 TI

something better I think is too much potential for the computer I have. What other options would there be. Basically I want it for gaming.

      Thanks in advance.

        Hello Edu,

Of the cards you mention, if you don't plan to upgrade the equipment soon, the one most similar to the one you had is the 550, a little less powerful I would say. The 460 I don't know if you can find, it will be difficult, and the 560 is more powerful.

I don't know what processor you have, but if you could upgrade it a bit it would make the graphics card happier. Although you don't use it at 100%, if you ever upgrade, you already have it.

I would advise you a 560. What resolution do you play at??

        Best regards…

The processor is an Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 at 2.4o GHz and I usually play at 1024x768.

A question, you tell me that the gtx 550 is less powerful than the gtx 280?????

Indeed the GTX550 is less powerful than the GTX280. To match the GTX280 at least a GTX460 SE in nVidia or an HD5850/6850 in AMD would be needed. For a new generation we would be talking about at least the GTX650 Ti in nVidia and an HD7770 in AMD, although in this case nVidia beats AMD until the latter release the HD7790 that they have planned.

In any case, given the problems that MS is having with all of AMD's GCNs, I would lean towards nVidia to be honest, I wouldn't take a chance.

within a budget of 100 euros the best option price performance is:
              The Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB GDDR5 - 99 euros approx

              regards

Well, I haven't given other options because it has put the ones I had in mind. And I see that I wasn't wrong about the 550, but without trying it I had that feeling.

That processor overclocks quite well, if you change the heatsink to a decent one (not the one that comes from the factory), and you overclock it to 3 Ghz, which is very easy. You will get more performance out of the card. Although to play at 1024, it gives you plenty without overclocking, the card will just be a walk in the park…........:).

Even if you change the monitor you will be covered.

If you can get a 560, put it in and enjoy it, you will have time to upgrade the pc, if it can't be now.

                Best regards...

Jotole, are you referring to the 560 or 560TI? I imagine that the 560TI could cause a bottleneck with my current setup and I'm not even talking about the 650TI.

The 560 is better than the gtx280?

Wargreymon, I don't know why but I've always leaned more towards nVidia, so it'll be nVidia, just need to decide which one, as always ?

The GTX560 Ti is more powerful than the GTX650 Ti (The GTX560 Ti beats the GTX650 Ti by 15-20% in performance). I think the GTX650 Ti is your best option, unless you need to spend less, but it's not very expensive either: http://www.pccomponentes.com/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_650_ti_oc_1gb_gddr5.html

I think it's the maximum GPU I would recommend putting in that system, although it would be good if you could overclock the CPU to 3-3.2 GHz.

To try to summarize and clarify doubts.

Are the gtx 560, 560ti and 650 all better than the gtx 280?

And between the 560ti and the 650, which is better?

                      (always ASUS)

                      Thanks again

Note, because one thing is the GTX650 and another is the GTX650 Ti, they are different cards with a significant performance difference. Of the ones you mention, the least powerful would be the GTX560 and the GTX650 Ti, in raw power the second is superior but the first has more bandwidth, so the performance depends on the use. As you play at a very low resolution I think the GTX650 Ti will perform better, so the order from least to most performance would be:

                        GTX560 < GTX 650 Ti < GTX560 Ti

The GTX560 Ti is a step above, at the same level as the competing HD6950/HD7850.

I've always referred to the "ti", because that's the one you were commenting on from the beginning, I agree with Wargreymon, if you can stretch to the 560 ti, and overclock that proc @ 3/3.2, you'll give your rig a new lease on life ;).

The 560TI is still a bit expensive, I think I'll go for the 650TI.
