NVIDIA Graphics Card Configuration

I have connected the PC to a TV via HDMI, and when projecting a movie from the PC to the TV with the movie player, I set it to full screen or not full screen, but I would like to know how to configure the NVIDIA GeForce GT 420 Graphics Card, or the VLC media player, so that the movie image appears on the TV screen in full screen and on the PC does not appear in full screen and that I can lower the player to the PC toolbar and be able to continue working on it, while the movie is being projected on the TV without having to stop the player. My OS is Windows 7 64 bits.
