Crossfire on ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M
-
Hello, I'm going to build a new computer using parts from the one I already have. I love the Corsair 350D Obsidian case so that's a definite, mostly because of the window and because it's small which is the most important thing. The thing is it's mATX and I want to use my ATI 5850 and buy another one second-hand to do crossfire... Here's the question...
-Is this ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M motherboard suitable for crossfire? does it have two pci x16 ports or something like that to make the most of crossfire or are they x8? I'm not very sure how it works
Best regards and I hope for your help

By the way, the processor will be a 3470 or 3570...

The motherboard supports Crossfire perfectly (in fact, it supports up to Quad Crossfire) as well as SLI (up to Quad SLI). It will also support any of the two processors you mentioned.
On the motherboard, you have 2 PCI-e 3.0 that work at 16x (PCI-e 1 and PCI-e 3) when you have a single card connected to one of them. But if you use both PCI-e slots, they go to 8x. This is normal on most motherboards except for some of very high performance that are capable of offering a dual 16X. But don't worry that they work at 8x as it is normal.
Best regards

Ammmm vale, que si pongo dos pasa a ser x8. Ok, then which one do you like better? the thing now is between these four:
-ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M - 146€
-ASUS Maximus V GENE - 180€
-ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M - 104€
-ASRock Z77 Pro4-M - 84€ (I say, why so much motherboard if I barely do OC)

I think it's a mistake to get attached to a mATX case for multiGPU, buy a 300R with a window and get an Extreme4 or a Z77X-D3H, the UD3H if you want something a little better. It wouldn't hurt to go for a 3570K with a decent cooler starting from HR-02, if you want something better the Silver Arrow SB-E
What power supply do you have?
Finally, the Cross of 5850s will come out well priced but, 1GB seems like too little memory for that performance. If it were a 6950 I'd think twice, but with a 5850 I'd consider selling it and buying a GT760, either with a monoGPU configuration and the 350D, and if you want the 3470 because the OC won't be noticed as much with 2 graphics, or you can go for a solid foundation of a pretty good SLI with 2 760s, getting the 300R of course.

+1 to everything.
The 5850 still puts up a fight, but there are very tempting options on the market right now that help you not complicate your life with crossfire (and I have one).
With a 5850 Obione would consider selling it, and I personally would consider buying it, out of necessity :ugly:
Best regards

I liked the 300R a lot but I have the computer inside the typical office furniture with a gap and if I put something too big it will hit the wall and a piece will stick out of the furniture. That's why I decided on this case that is small and stays flush with the furniture.
The crossfire of 5850s is to try a crossfire to see how it goes with consumption and if the computer turns into a stove. In a few months I would buy a 7970 or 780 or something like that.
For the power supply I bought a Corsair 700w

Something like this says, the 780 costs almost double :ugly:Well, you'll see what you build, but know that 2 graphics cards in a mATX will be stuck, if you find an ATX case that fits, you'll be able to have the graphics cards with a slot separation and the top one will be better cooled.
Buying a 5850 to make the jump in a few months seems to me like renting a game that you're going to buy.

Sisisisisiss, I meant the 770, or almost that with the 760 I already have more than enough

The thing is that I don't want to worry about the graphics now because the 5850 is fine for me now. The thing with the two graphics, as I said, is more to try, and to see them through the window of the new case jajajaja. Although I suppose it won't be very practical because they will be very close.
Well, we'll leave the graphics for their time

+1 again.
I have a mid-tower and the graphics cards are stuck together as much as possible with some terrible temperatures… If you put those two beasts in an mATX you're going to have a hard time, and even more so if you decide to overclock.
Sell(me) the 5850 and buy a new powerful one, you'll make life easier for yourself :sisi: and you won't lose money.

Well yes, we'll leave the crossfire for when he's older :))
Besides, curiosity killed the cat ^^
I'll hold on to my ATI for a few more months
Thanks for your help and goodbye
