ATI releases UVD specifications
-
UVD, Ati's video acceleration technology has been free for a month, although there is still no documentation about it. The preliminary versions of Kernel 3.10 include the code released by Ati so that soon implementations will start to appear in playback software to free the CPU as much as possible when playing video. On the other hand "they say" that flash player will be able to use UVD through VDPAU, nVidia's API for video acceleration in Linux and that is the only one that the Adobe plugin can use for hardware decoding in Linux.
With this release, Ati's open drivers increase the advantage over nVidia's Nouveau, although they are still far from the performance offered by Ati's proprietary driver.
The reason given for not releasing the UVD code was that it would break the security of the DRM rights manager. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but for a few months now the proprietary drivers for Linux from Ati have stopped supporting the HD4000 series backwards so that in new distros there is only the option to use the free driver.
Without a doubt, good news for Linux users who own an Ati graphics card.

Great news, now flash will not only overload the cpu, it will also do so with the gpu:troll:

Yes, it's like those disks that are getting bigger and bigger and you still fill them up, well Flash is the same, it won't stop until it makes our computers implode and disappear

Very good news.
