      Hello everyone

I am currently living in Ireland and will be here for a period of 6 months due to a small temporary project.

The TV they provided in my apartment turned out to be an old TV that only has an antenna input and a Euroconnector/SCART input.

As for a laptop, I have an LG Laptop with VGA and HDMI outputs

Is there any cable/converter that I can use to make some kind of connection to use the TV as a monitor and thus be able to watch matches, movies, series, etc... from my laptop?

I had read something about VGA/SCART cables but that they required the monitor and laptop to work at the same frequency (I know that's what it is, but I don't know how to check it) and that in most cases they didn't work. Regarding an HDMI/SCART connection, I also read something about not being able to make a connection of that type since it is analog-digital.

I don't know if what I read is coherent since my knowledge in electronics is quite limited, it's not my strong point at all and I am quite ignorant on the subject.

I hope you can help me and thank you very much in advance

      Best regards

You need two things, euroconector-svideo/composite and vga-svideo/composite:

Then you connect the VGA to composite video or s-video in yellow (with the corresponding cable of the size you need) and the sound if you want in red and white with a jack-rca. You have direct VGA-euroconector, but they usually do not have a connection for sound, that's why I say to buy it separately as it's easier to find.

And although the cable is a bit more expensive, if you connect it by svideo you will have better quality than by composite.

For the output on the PC there is usually a TV output option, and you must select the frequency 50 or 60Hz, but the TVs are usually compatible for both, PAL/NTSC.

PD. I almost forgot, an ideal cable would be one like this if you find it, because they connect color by color and give the best quality, then I think you will have to manually select the resolution of the TV 640x480 and it should work. But well if you can't find or it's expensive the svideo will serve you well.

Thanks for the reply. Tomorrow or the day after I will go to buy the cable I need and see how it goes.

          Best regards
