Hello. I want to upgrade an old computer by adding a motherboard, memory, and micro. The best option for me is an I3, at least 3.5 ghz. For reasons that are not relevant, I need said computer to run on Windows XP. The problem is the drivers for the motherboard. I have seen that manufacturers no longer provide drivers for this OS. Do you know of any brand that has said drivers for their boards, especially in the latest sockets 1150 or 1155? If you have knowledge of any brand or model that you know actually works with XP, the better the better. Thank you.

Windows XP has a huge problem: in February its useful life ends and it will stop receiving security updates.

I assume you need Windows XP to run some old application/game. My suggestion is that you install a current Windows and run Windows XP on a virtual machine. In VirtualBox, Windows XP has a surprisingly good performance so if you do not have high requirements for graphics or processor, it would be a good option.

I need XP because it is a computer that will run with a graphics card with modified drivers to output at 15khz (low resolution monitors). Said drivers do not exist for other operating systems. I do not need any security on said computer since it is not even connected or will be connected to the Internet.

Better look at it because there is still support for XP.

              @Elaphe:

Mmm… building an arcade machine?, or maybe video surveillance?, although the former sounds more likely.

Look, I went to the Asus driver download page and chose a low-end motherboard at random, socket 1155. I saw that it had XP drivers and searched for it on Google, which showed me the PCComponentes page as one where it is sold:

              http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=es-es&m=H61M-E&p=1&s=39&os=17&hashedid=kFyd5JQHKtkiATTF

              http://www.pccomponentes.com/asus_h61m_e.html

It supports up to Core i7.

What about the graphics card?, because I know of several ATI cards that allowed what you mentioned but they were AGP.

              Best regards.

Indeed. Although it is not a recreational one per se, that computer will be almost exclusively dedicated to running MAME at low resolution. I need a modern micro, with two cores at most and a high clock frequency, given that my efforts to overclock the one I have have been in vain (the board beeps and resets to the default frequency whenever it feels like it). Thank you very much for the search. I feel more at ease now. I was looking around on several manufacturer websites and couldn't find anything but Windows 7 and 8.

Oops, it seems that it's with the socket 1150 that there isn't, because I'm looking at several Asus models on 1155 and it seems that they have support.

The motherboard that you linked me to before is very cheap. Is it because it's a low-end one? I don't ask for much in a motherboard, more than that it is stable in operation, that it doesn't give problems, that it has integrated audio and enough USBs. I could spend up to 70 or 80€ on the motherboard. Is it worth it or do they all work the same? The truth is that I don't know why there is such a price difference between motherboard models. Maybe it's for additional features that I won't take advantage of and it's throwing money away...

I don't think it's bad, just basic. I've always gone for budget motherboards and I can't remember ever spending more than 60€ or 10,000 pts on a motherboard, and apart from one AOpen I haven't had any problems with them.

The motherboard I put in has only VGA, it doesn't have USB 3.0, its overclocking capabilities will be very limited, etc. It depends on what you need and how much money you want to spend.

In the end, looking at prices and features on PCBox, I'm going to build this. The USB 3 on the motherboard might come in handy, because I'll need to change my portable HD soon. And the HDMI, because I'm not ruling out putting a flat screen TV in the future to watch movies and stuff.

Do you know if this micro can be overclocked? On my main computer I have a Core2Duo E8500 with an Asus and almost without touching voltages I raised it from 3 ghz to 3.6ghz and it's cool and stable. However on another E7500, with an Asrock, nothing at all.

As far as I know, you can only increase the FSB, but they come with the multi locked. Only the 'K' ones have the multi unlocked and they are only available in i5 and i7, but I leave that to others, because I have little to no control over OC. My i3 is at stock speed because I don't need more.

The i5 3000 series (non-K) can be overclocked 4 points above turbo. If you want something BBB, get the 3240 and a B75 Pro3, less than 200€.

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not very knowledgeable about these things. What exactly does that mean? I mean, if I buy the i3 3250 3.5 GHZ, how many mhz can I normally overclock it to? Or can I not overclock it at all?

And if I stretch my budget a bit with an i5 3570K 3.4 GHZ for 225€, could I overclock it? I've read that the ones with the K are better for overclocking. How much can I normally overclock it with the standard cooler without it getting too hot?

1st question If you look at the processor specifications you'll see that some have a turbo function, that difference is what you can overclock.

2nd question How many liters of rain are going to fall into the lake in the Retiro Park in Madrid during the first 3 months of next year?
