      Hello, as many of you know, the film festival starts today. 3 days in which we can enjoy cinema for 2.90 euros per session just by getting our accreditation at the following address.

      Film Festival

      We could create a thread where we can comment on films, recommendations and experiences in general of cinema.

      It seems that there is a good lineup.
      There are four films that seem quite recommendable to watch these days.

      GRAVITY: I'm almost sure I'm going to watch it today, we'll see if it's as good as they say.

      CAPTAIN PHILLIPS: It also looks very good (although I don't know why I have Tom Hanks a bit crossed xD), based on real events.

      PRISONERS: They don't talk badly about it either, intrigue and suspense, it could be a good option.

      THE BUTLER: People come out talking very well about it, it looks good, historical.

      Comments, suggestions?

        I've already seen Gravity, I really liked it, the only downside is that it's 100% chroma key and it shows, but the plot, the photography, the zero gravity effect, etc. is great, I recommend it. And tonight I'll go see Prisoners to see how it is.

          Mother of God, the queue at the cinema.
          Maybe the problem is that people are not willing to pay €8 for a ticket, right?

                    I saw Prisoners last weekend and I really liked it, a lot of intrigue, good actors and the translation was very good too.

                    Greetings and enjoy ;D

                      I didn't like the gravity... Maybe I'm liking the genre less and less because of the lack of innovation.

                      Today I'm going to watch the sugary story of "a matter of time" to see how it is..

                        I have seen The Butler and I loved it, it is very good, that's for sure, with almost all the black actors it has been hard for me to follow because I have seen it in the original version, but I certainly recommend it, one of the best things I have seen in recent months.

                          Here at home, some friends were arguing about that: even though a news report broke down those €8 into taxes, distributor fees, etc., I was wondering…
                          Wouldn't it be more profitable to fill the theaters in all sessions, than to have them half full only in the afternoon/evening sessions?
                          I'm not saying they should charge €3, but at €8, I won't be seen at the cinema. :osvaisacagar:

                            You can't analyze the effect of one-time offers versus a fixed price. They should do it more often, of course, but the issue of paying to watch movies is a cultural one. I also understand that culture shouldn't pay taxes, but we know how things have been going lately... I go to the cinema day a couple of times a month and it won't ruin me to pay a couple of euros more or less.

                            There have been many cinemas that have closed, and I don't think it's because anyone came up with the idea of lowering prices, putting on alternative cinema, etc. Simply buying a premiere to be able to screen it and have some decent rooms is expensive and people prefer to watch it at home and not pay, I've been to the cinema many times and I know they were losing money and not just for a day. Things have changed too, you have to see what kind of home cinema there is in the houses ahead that will have to be amortized, in the past the most we had was a 21”...

                              well, the problem is not so much the cinema itself as the distributor that ends up drowning the rooms. They ask for a very high fixed price per screening and a very high percentage of the box office for the first 2 or 3 weeks, which is when a cinema makes the most money.
                              Obviously, if the ticket always cost €3, it wouldn't go to the cinema on a Monday with as many people as last time (they were talking about a 550% increase in spectators compared to the previous Monday and a 330% increase in box office, billing more than on Sunday, which seems to account for 25% of the weekly box office (Mondays seem to account for around 7%).
                              You also have to count the additional expense beyond buying tickets, such as popcorn, drinks, and other things that account for a very high percentage of a cinema's revenue.
                              To give an example, on Monday my expense was €5.80 for 2 tickets and €13.90 for some popcorn, 2 drinks and some nachos (which I also think is a robbery, by the way).
                              In the same cinema, on cinema day the ticket costs €7.90 and on a normal day €9.70. Can you imagine a couple with 2 children going to the cinema on a Sunday? €38.8 for tickets, plus about €30 for popcorn and other things, €70 for an hour and a half of entertainment? there's no family economy that can handle that often.

                                You can't talk about cinema as a whole, because there are many differentiated elements, but when one cries and it seems that they listen to them, many want to put the pot, just in case something falls.

                                The film industry has its future assured, but the exhibition halls and distributors, no, because they have to adapt to the 21st century, and they are a decade behind.

                                If those in the halls want to take advantage of the visibility created with this promotion, they can already start announcing rejuvenating initiatives like group ticket purchases, or the exhibition of remastered films, etc... which is something common in other countries, but in ours, it seems that there are many little lords ¬¬

                                Salu2!

                                  anyway, more than the price (which I think is outdated) what bothers me is that there isn't a single neighborhood cinema left in my area, they're all in shopping centers which in my case means I have to go quite far to see a movie, before we had one that was very well air-conditioned and of good quality with two street-level theaters that you could just walk into and see a movie at any time, now I'm too lazy to go out, that's why I've set up my own mini cinema at home with a good home theater system and a TV and I tell you, I enjoy it more at home than in the multiplexes.

                                    It's a film that you either like or you don't, it's good but I understand that it can generate indifference, being a moderately realistic space film it's one of the few that is so good. And I don't even like the actors but I think Sandra Bullock does a pretty good job.
                                    @amd125:

                                    Well, it hasn't received very good reviews, maybe it's like with Lincoln's film that I later liked, but I think I'll save it to watch at home. The one I was planning to watch today is **Captain Philip**, although I have my reservations...
                                    @packosoft:

                                    I'm talking about watching CINEMA, obviously who goes on Sunday, in 3D, with the kids, the grandparents and maxi popcorn for everyone... If you go to a normal one on the viewer's day and bring something to snack on, for €6 I go often; obviously the one who spends €20 I understand that they go on holidays in bunches, but there's no need.

                                    @__Tecnho__ I'm also from neighborhood cinemas, but they haven't survived, here there were 2 cinemas and now 0 and in the capital I think 5 and now 1. And I used to go to see @__Fassou__ cycles, old films, lesser-known or independent cinema, VOS, etc. and thanks to that I've been able to see films in the cinema that I can't now, but as I say if you're alone in the theater, if people don't go, they end up closing and I don't know to what extent it's just about price.
