I want to upgrade my computer and I'm torn between these two processors, considering that the computer will only be used for gaming, what do you recommend?

Just yesterday I installed a 3470 with a Z75 Pro3 for a colleague because it's more versatile but well, seeing how demanding games have become that take advantage of 8 threads, it's a toss-up :ugly:

How's your power supply? If it's just barely enough, get the i5.

In terms of price, the Z75 and the 3470 will come out similar to make it run over 3.9GHz and the FX with a 970A-UD3 to give it a good thrashing. The 3470 doesn't even notice the slight OC via turbo (0.9-1v), I left the 212 EVO fan between 800 and 1400 RPM with peaks over 50º, I don't think it will go over 60º in the summer.

I have a 550W Corsair VX power supply, and I'm having trouble deciding between a R7 260x or an R9 270x for the graphics card. I'd like to keep the power supply, but I'm not sure about the R9…

It's not a bad power supply, although the FX also gives you less margin to build a cucumber graph. My colleague has picked up a Seasonic a little better than yours but with 480W at 12v. With the 280X it won't reach 400W, with an overclocked FX it will, but well, you have 500W at 12v and with moderate OCs you should be able to move even the 8320 + 280X. If you want to operate with more margin and go for the "versatile" micro (fewer threads but more powerful) you can go for the 3470 overclocked via turbo with the Z75 Pro3 or the 4570 with a B85 with 4 RAM sockets over 80€ (HD3, Pro4 or G43, the one that makes you the most angry). In any case, you should ask for a 212 EVO if you don't have a cooler or even an HR-02 if you opt for AMD that one can be scratched more. That said, watch out for the size in width of the case and high memory coolers (try to avoid them, fast RAM is hardly noticeable but clashing with the cooler fan is a pain in the ass xD) Do you have a case?

Yes, I have a case, we would like to continue using the one I have, which is a Thermaltake Wings RS

I give my vote to the i5, you overclock it a little with a decent cooler and it runs a bit faster consuming less and at a better temperature. The rest is controlling the graphics card so that it doesn't ask for more voltage than necessary, due to the limitation of the power supply, which excludes the goal of overclocking it, but doesn't prevent you from putting in up to an r9 280x as Obione tells you.

                Regards
