I had no doubts, I have not had a problem with any game on my laptop, and I have the feeling that the system uses less processor, which is important on relatively old computers like mine, a core2 duo from 2009. The latest rumor is that they will put in a patch to compress RAM to limit as much as possible the use of the paging file, if you don't have enough RAM you will notice it a lot (although on an alienware I don't think that will be your biggest problem :D)

Yes, a system that is already used on Macs and Linux will be used.
It is about, instead of using the paging file, compressing the data of the applications you have open. It seems that this action of compressing/decompressing makes the processor work a little more, but it is faster than accessing the disk (even if it is an SSD). All this data is compressed in the System process.

It works perfectly on OSX, I still have 2GB of RAM on my macbook, which is almost impossible with Windows. The memory waste was one of the biggest drawbacks of Windows, they also need to optimize the active services in the background...

Thanks Kynes. The alienware comes with "only" 8gb, but I hope it will be more than enough. I'm getting on the win10 bandwagon, do you think the upgrade will be enough or should I do a clean install (if that's possible). I'm worried that some of the alienware drivers will stop working if I mess everything up, and I don't know if it will come with driver discs, etc.

            Regards!

Indeed, there are users who are having problems after upgrading to W10. Similar to the Sony case, there are Alienware models for which the upgrade is not recommended.
Although the X51 R2 does appear among the supported models, it's better to wait a couple of months until Dell prepares a more refined driver package.

8 GB is what most of us mortals have at the moment, I don't think you'll have problems in that regard. ;D

Edit: Regarding the upgrade in general, I found this regarding KB3035583. Paranoia? ?

                  Thanks Whololon,
I will do a little research to see what people say about compatibility issues, but it's wise to wait a couple of months to see what happens

They say you will be able to download Windows 10 from the Microsoft website, install it and use it without entering a product key.
You will have a completely functional Windows for free but illegally.
Here I have existential doubts, if they let you update pirated copies with a free Windows or if I download that same Windows directly, do I stop having a pirated copy?
From what I understand, in both ways you are in limbo between legal and illegal, good and evil, angel or demon.
                    Microsoft does not recognize you.

You won't have a "completely functional" W10, the operability is limited to test functions.
Maybe here they explain it in a more concise way.

If you download the ISO from the Microsoft website (well, actually you download a program from which a USB installation or an ISO is created) you will have the system installed, but not activated, so it will not be 100% legal until you enter the corresponding serial.
On the other hand, what I have not tried is to enter the serial of a Windows 7/8/8.1 directly into Windows 10.
But if you have your previous original Windows, you will not have to pay for a Windows 10 license again. However, you will have to use the equivalent version of Windows 10.
It is not valid to have a Windows 7 home and want to install Windows 10 pro, for that you do not have a license if you do not upgrade from Windows 7 ultimate or Windows 8 pro.

                          That's right.
On the other hand, if we choose to download the W10 ISO image using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, we get several versions of the OS: Home, Home single language and Pro, as well as the N.

You can download the edition you want, for 32 and/or 64 bits… and keep it in the drawer in case the whistle blows someday. :ugly:

What I think, after kicking around the net in several languages, is what we all suspect: what MS cares about is that you install W10 one way or another.

                                  • You already have a license? Well, you have a new OS for free.

                                  • You don't have one? Well, you sign up for free in the "Windows Insider" program, download the ISO that takes the most courage, and you already have a Windows Insider Preview license and a fully operational and activated W10.

                                  • Are you actually Guybrush Threepwood, valiant pirate? Well, take a look at this.

                                  !

Well, today I upgraded to Windows 10 and my experience has been quite disappointing.
After installing, once on the desktop and after several minutes, it freezes and I get the screen with the message SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_ERROR in reference to the file igdkmd64.sys.
I tried several graphic drivers but nothing.
The good thing is that it allowed me to return to the previous operating system without major trauma, so whatever, good luck to those who do well, that's great.
I'll stick with my beloved W7 until I forget this. :wall:

Edit: After looking and reviewing several pages with the same problem, I disabled the "IGPU Multi Monitor" in the UEFI because apparently the driver of the integrated one is the one causing the problem. Obviously it's a matter of poor drivers, since in W7 there was no problem.
Tomorrow if I have time and feel like it I'll give it another try, seeing how easy it is to return to your previous OS it's almost worth it.

Well, some people may have suffered with the W8 graphic interface and see this as compensation, and others may think that the interface was one of the best things MS has invented since Vista. To each their own...
