RAM Which is better, high latencies or dual channel?
-
Hello,
I currently have two Gskill modules of 4Gb at 1600 cl9 installed on my computer, which are placed in Dual Channel. Yesterday there was an offer for some Kingston 4Gb 1600 cl10 modules at a good discount and I bought two.
Here is my question, is it better to keep the dual channel, but now in cl10, or switch to single channel and put different latencies on each one?Thank you.

Put the 8 gigabytes if you have space, in dual channel and cl10

If you are referring to whether it is preferable to leave the 8 new Gigas or the 8 old + the 8 new. I would say that you should try using the 4 modules at the same time. You should set the latencies of the worst memories, so that all the modules work together. You would have Dual Channel as well. But instead of 2 modules you would have 4.
This is the theory, then it may be that since the modules are different the computer does not start up, it restarts etc, but once the Bios loads look if the Bios detects them, then in the computer look at CPU-Z for example and you will see if it detects all the memory and at what latencies it goes. If you are lucky and everything goes well, you will be able to use the 16 Gigas. ;D
I have 12 Gigas of RAM, in 4 modules, 2 of one brand and 2 of another, different latencies and even voltages… and the computer works well. :ugly: That said, I do not have any Overclock. If you want to do Overclock it is not a good idea to have memories of different types - brands.

oops sorry, I meant Put in the 16 gigs if you have space, in dual channel and cl10
