Vega begs

AMD's microarchitecture that could rival Nvidia at the high end is still a ways off, according to an engineering lead at the company.

Man, standing up to him is going to backfire, but I suspect that until nVidia wants it.
I explain, practically (being modest) all the 1070/ 1080 get stuck from a certain frequency (about 2100Mhz in the case of the 1080) because of the driver, regardless of the phases or power connectors they have: it smells like a BIOS cap.
Why? So that when AMD brings out the big guns, they can calibrate the landscape and, if it suits them, release an update that allows the frequency to be raised as high as they can really handle.
For now, what has been hinted at with the 480 hasn't displeased me, and that should extrapolate to the Vega. Let's see how this poker game ends. -
If expectations are met, the new AMD will do a lot of damage to nVIDIA because of the starting price, and about what whoololon says, it's normal that they save something, because they will be afraid that Vega could be too big a leap, because of its innovation (or it could be nothing at all).
Salu2!
