Curiously, I had a suspicion about the relationship with Telnet and FTP. I suspected that there might be a connection because SSH was 22 and Telnet 23, but I never stopped to think about why a more modern protocol had a port number between two older protocols or how the process was to officialize it.

SSH is one of the best inventions of computer science. The reality is that one of the reasons I like Linux more than Windows is precisely thanks to this service.
