[Opinion] Prey 2017
-

Hello everyone, today I wanted to leave you my review of Prey, I've waited to advance and now with more than 20h I can give you my opinion
How does it look? Technically it's not very advanced and it doesn't have any innovation, even in some aspects it's somewhat neglected like in the design of the characters' faces, however overall it's well done and conveys the same feeling as Bioshock, with a retro-futuristic aesthetic that gives us the feeling that things don't fit. And the graphics are more of a plastic style than photo realistic, like Dishonored, and the truth is that they are very striking.
How does it play? First of all, I say that this is not a conventional FPS, so although there is action, the role and the variety of ways to approach missions have more weight. It will remind you of games like Deus Ex where the enemy that seems more difficult after finding the trick with the appropriate skill or weapon will turn out to be the easiest and that sealed door that you can't get the code for will end up being jumpable by climbing on some boxes. So in general, it's a mix of action, adventure, and survival with touches of shooter like Half Life but adding that role-playing component, some would say it's a new System Shock. And that's why it becomes very entertaining by allowing you to choose how you want to play it and also being an open world gives the option to choose which missions to play first and which path to take to get there, although they are not long journeys like in other games, there are always surprises, so even choosing the route to take is important, it won't be a mere formality.

The weapons are another important tactical aspect where our main weapons turn out to be a glue gun and a wrench, so the scarcity of ammunition will force us to deal with enemies in a closer way than we would like, it's another way of proposing to play in a less conventional way. In addition, we will have weapons that are sometimes useless but will be essential at other times, so we will have to vary their use. It also has a small farming factor, where collecting materials, recycling them, and crafting things will be fundamental often (you know, we have to be environmentally conscious). Another interesting detail is how the enemies appear, there is no constant regeneration but it depends on our advancement, so you never know if in an area that you have already cleaned it remains empty, someone has entered, or maybe you had overlooked someone; and it is in those moments when the enemies catch you by surprise and you haven't been able to think about how to attack that they hurt us the most.

Is the story worth it? Despite being a great paranoia, in that it will remind you of its predecessor although without Native Americans, the story never ceases to surprise and maintains the intrigue until the very end or ends since you can choose different paths. If something defines Prey is that nothing is what it seems and that makes it entertaining. Don't expect the script of the century but it's noticeable that they have made an effort to be original and although they haven't invented anything, the mix of great ideas that we have already seen in different games has been successful. Perhaps what stands out the most is that feeling of being able to do things your way, there is always a choice and everything has a meaning.
Any drawbacks? To me, mainly the soundtrack and sound effects bothered me, true that the environment is given to the absence of music and some strident or tension effects but in this aspect I have to say that I didn't like it at all and it doesn't achieve the calm-tension effect that Dead Space had for example and the soundtrack would be the question where the %$&* is?
Should I buy it? Yes, to tell the truth I had my doubts and I bought it on sale, but after playing it I think it's definitely worth its 50-60€. It won't be a perfect game but it's very complete, original, and fun, plus if you get hooked it can give you many hours. Maybe it hasn't been very talked about or advertised but it has more than enough quality for you to give it a chance and you can even try it for free with the demos available for the console.
Best regards!

Good analysis, detailed and makes you want to play it

At the rate I'm going, I'm marking it down for the STEAM Sales of 2022
