[Short entry] It seems that GPUs are no longer profitable for ETH mining
-
Well, there's not much more to add. In this Reddit post someone has posted a link to CryptoCompare where the fields have been filled in for a GPU similar to a GTX 1070 (one of the popular ones for this task) with a typical electricity cost. The result is that it's not profitable to mine Ethereum.
There are still GPUs that are still profitable, but this is decreasing.
Between this, the drop in SSDs and RAM will 2018 be the year to upgrade your PC?

At the price of Ethereum today it doesn't surprise me, anyway since ASICs for Ethash came out it makes little sense to invest in GPUs.

I have always been of the opinion that mining was one of the excuses to try to justify the overpriced graphics cards, which does not mean that I am not happy that it is no longer an excuse.
Regarding SSDs, personally I have not noticed the increase as much as with RAM, which can only be defined as pure speculation.
As for the best year to renew, if it is only the trinity (card, CPU and RAM), now is as good a time as in three months; if we add graphics, it is better to wait a couple of months after the first custom ones from the new generation of nVidia appear. That's how I see it.
