Flat lenses made of nanostructures

A metalens is a flat glass surface with a semiconductor layer on top. Etched into the semiconductor is an array of cylinders several hundred nanometers tall. These nanocylinders can manipulate light waves with a degree of control that is not possible with traditional refractive lenses.
