New technique for showing ads on TV
TV manufacturer Roku shows advertising when its menus are used. Following the short-term vision that CEOs of multiple companies have taken in recent years to improve the results of the next quarter, the company has now patented a system that will analyze the image, send metadata of the same and show personalized advertising when it detects that the content of external devices is paused.
Magnetic 3D recording technology
Seagate has introduced a new 3D magnetic recording technology that will allow the manufacture of 120TB hard drives.
Kodi 21 available
3750 commits after the previous version, Kodi 21 has been released. One of its main changes is the update to FFmpeg 6 (coincidentally, just one day after its version 7 was published). It also brings improvements for mobiles, MacOS and support for WebOS.
Price increase for memories
The cartel of memory manufacturers is expected to raise prices, they say, due to the Taiwan earthquake. Interestingly, the TSMC factory barely suffered any damage and the leaders of the organization (Samsung, Micron and Sk Hynix) do not even have factories in the country.
Apple will allow the use of used spare parts
Apple has made a statement saying that, in order to improve the experience of its users and reduce the impact we have on the planet, it has decided that it will allow the use of used parts to repair its phones. In another matter, two months ago the EU announced that it will force manufacturers to allow the use of second-hand parts in their repairs.
Improvements for Nvidia GPUs in Wayland
Explicit synchronization support has been added in Wayland for Kwin, which will solve problems of the KDE compositor on Nvidia graphics cards. This change consists of allowing applications to tell the driver or the kernel when the rendering work is finished instead of leaving the task to the drivers.
