We started the new season without much fanfare. A few months ago, we did a software and hardware update that, in addition to bringing new features, have managed to optimize resources. I had some doubts about separating the Redis server on its own machine, but now I can confirm that it's worth it, mainly in terms of taking advantage of the main server's buffer and substantially reducing the number of accesses to the different disks. I hope to be able to resume active development of the different sites in a few months, although for now I can't make predictions about when or what new features are coming. Until then, here are the weekly summaries:
The people at Anandtech have decided to abandon their publications. The site was launched in 97 and the reason for the closure is "a market that is no longer what it was or will be what it was". The site's forums will remain operational.
Intel's CEO has called an extraordinary meeting of the company's board of directors to make severe cuts that could range from canceling the construction of the factory in Magdeburg, Germany (a 32 billion project), to selling its Altera FPGA division.
A few days ago, someone brought us a Core i7-11370H. It's a 4-core Tiger Lake laptop that exceeds a quarter of a million points and manages to enter the top 100 single-threaded, occupying position 81. It achieves a performance similar to the i7-7700K with a third of its TDP.
Someone has created a tool for the console that shows planes that are near our position on a map.
A few months ago, there were signs that Intel was going to focus on its manufacturing processes, but in recent days, news has come out that makes one think that TSMC will be an escape route while they get their 18A ready. In this process (the 18A), they want to manufacture their CPUs, GPUs, network cards, and AI accelerators. The plan must be executed in the face of distrust from its investors whose patience, moreover, is beginning to run out.
Namiga brought us a Core i7-9700K a few days ago in all modes mounted on a workstation. As a curiosity, the 8-core Coffee Lake doesn't have HT. It almost reaches half a million points and stays in position 72 of the overall ranking.
