Here is the latest summary of 2024.
Happy holidays!
Microsoft does not lift the TPM restriction
A few days ago, a rumor appeared saying that Microsoft was going to start allowing Windows 11 to be installed on machines that did not meet the hardware requirements (TPM 2.0). It seems that the rumor was false. In any case, Windows 11 can be installed on PCs without TPM 2.0 although Microsoft does not provide support in these cases.
Xfce 4.20 available
After two years of development, version 4.20 of Xfce is now available. The work has focused on supporting Wayland although it seems that there are other relevant changes such as an important performance improvement in the Thunar file manager.
Ryzen 3 7320U
Someone brought us a Ryzen 3 7320U the other day. It is a Zen 2 Mendocino laptop with 4 cores, a TDP of 15W and a performance that leaves it far from entering the top 100 both single and multi-threaded.
GPU without CPU
John Carmack has proposed a hardware topology in which it would be possible to use a GPU without CPU intervention. He recalls the era of the Voodoo2, with which it was possible to double the frame rate by installing two cards per SLI. In this case, he proposes a ring connection.
The Nvidia app reduces performance
The new Nvidia App that has replaced GeForce Experience is causing frame rate reductions of 15%. The company has said that by disabling filters for games, the problem is solved.
