Europe continues to bet on RISC-V
A group called DARE (Digital Autonomy in Europe with RISC-V) wants to develop a processor for supercomputing centers. The group has the support of EuroHPC and will be coordinated by the National Supercomputing Center of Barcelona. 240 million have been allocated for the first 6 years of the project.
Pipewire 1.4 available
Pipewire 1.4 is now available for download. The new version of the audio and video server for Linux comes with support for UMP, a container that can store both MIDI1 and MIDI2, among many other things.
Security flaw in ESP32
A group of researchers has discovered a security hole in the popular ESP32 microcontroller, which is widely used in the IoT field. What they found is a series of hidden commands in the Bluetooth controller intended for debugging, but which can be used to infect the device.
HP firmware leaves printers unusable
HP has released firmware for the M232–M237 series of laser printers. This update causes the printers to give a toner error even with original consumables.
New Nvidia driver for Linux
The people at Red Hat have been developing a new free driver written in Rust for Nvidia GPUs. The goal is to replace the veteran Nouveau, which has been without very active support for a while. NOVA, as the new driver is called, only works with the RTX 20 series and beyond.
Ryzen 7 5800
A certain Mistah-Sistah has brought us a Ryzen 7 5800 (without the X) that, with good judgment and surprisingly for being someone new, comes in all modes. It exceeds 400k points but doesn't quite make it into the overall ranking.
