The head of Xeon leaves Intel
The brain drain continues at Intel. The head of Xeon architecture has left the company. Singhal has been with the company for almost 30 years, joining after doing a fellowship at Cyrix.
Core Ultra 5 225F
Someone has brought us a Core Ultra 5 225F. The 10-core Alder Lake, which doesn't have HT and has a TDP of 65W, gets close to a million points with a multi-thread performance similar to the Ryzen 7 7700X.
AMD abandons its AMDVLK
AMD has decided to stop supporting its free driver AMDVLK. According to them, they are doing this to dedicate all resources to RADV, which is also open source.
Gnome 49 available
Gnome 49 comes with Showtime as the default video player, leaving behind the veteran Totem, which is still based on GTK3. For the same reason, Evince has been stopped as the default document viewer and the option by default is now Papers. They have also included wallpapers designed for HDR screens.
Pact between Intel and Nvidia
Nvidia has thrown a lifeline to Intel with a pact where they will manufacture x86 SoCs with integrated Nvidia graphics. This union will also produce chips for data centers.
