on the micro$oft website it says this, try it to see if it works for you:
Start Windows in Safe Mode. To do this:
Restart your computer and press F8 while it starts up.
In the Advanced Windows Options menu that appears, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and then press ENTER.
Use the arrow keys to select the operating system that should start up, and then press ENTER to start Windows XP in Safe Mode.
In the message that says Windows will run in Safe Mode, click Yes.
Click Start and then Run, in the Open box type msinfo32 and then click OK.
In System Summary, expand Components and click Show.
In the right panel, note the information corresponding to the INF file item, for example, Nv4.inf, Oem0.inf, or Atim128.inf.
Exit the System Information tool.
Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Expand Display adapters, right-click the display adapter, and then click Uninstall.
Click OK.
Click Start and then Run, type cmd and click OK.
In the command prompt window, type the following commands; press ENTER after each line.
ren %systemroot%\\inf\\ Name of the INF file from step 5.inf *inf.old
ren %systemroot%\\inf\\ Name of the INF file from step 5.pnf *pnf.old
Close all open windows and restart your computer in the normal way.
Log on to Windows with a user account that has administrative privileges and wait for Windows to detect the new hardware.
When the New Hardware Found Wizard starts, click Cancel.
If a stop error appears after you remove the updated display drivers, restart your computer and use the Last Known Good Configuration option. To do this, restart your computer and press F8 while it starts up. In the Advanced Windows Options menu that appears, use the arrow keys to select Last Known Good Configuration and then press ENTER.
If the "The system has recovered from an error" message appears when you start Windows, restart your computer again. This error message will not appear again.
Obtain and install the latest drivers for the display adapter.
