      AMD 7990 HD smells of burning and high temperatures FROM DAY ONE

      Hello,

      I also have a 7990.
      With GTA I noticed that one of the two Malta cores reached almost 100º and the cooling of the whole system was practically saturated.
      To try to correct it, I activated the Overdrive technology in the Catalyst drivers and lowered the 'power limit' to -14%. From there, one core usually stays above 85º and the other at 75º and I can continue playing at a resolution of 6124x1080. You can adjust the overdrive values to your liking, in the end I have left the limit at -11%, with a little overclock.
      It all depends on the cooling set you have, but I think modifying that value could help you.

      You will let me know, I hope it can be useful for this or other games!

      Best regards!

      Are these temperatures normal?

      In duales it is normal to have higher temperatures, what you can do when playing is force vsync so that it only gives the necessary frames and make a fan profile with MSI afterburner, which speeds up the fan earlier, for example when passing from 65º the fan goes up, because the factory profiles are very conservative and only go up when passing from 80º, so then it is more difficult to cool it down.

      Well, that's it, a small bad contact or an error in the power supply of your new graphics card and goodbye.

      @WarGeek:

      The truth is that with Sandy Bridge and a moderate overclock, you don't need an aftermarket cooler or increase voltages, that's one of the good things about this line of processors. (Assuming you're not in a desert)

      Doing OC isn't that difficult, you can start by setting the voltage to manual and set it to 1.2 or 1.25 and start increasing the multiplier one by one while running Prime 95 tests of at least 15 minutes. When you reach 3.8 or 4.0Ghz (which would be the maximum you could reach with the stock cooler), then, if you haven't had any problems, you can run a long test of 2-3 hours, always remember to keep an eye on the temps. I recommend Hardware Monitor or Aida64.

      If you want more help, I'm happy to help, just check my profile and there I have my FB, msn, or skype.

      By the way, I have a 2500K at 4.6Ghz, with all power states enabled (I like the performance, but I also like silence and energy saving).

      I'll put some videos from a YouTube channel I have, maybe they help you somehow. And by the way, give them a like (if it helps you), they're quite informative.

      Hello, my motherboard only lets me overclock it to 3.8, which is already enough, but do I need to increase voltage if I only increase it by 0.4 from what it came with?

      And another question, will anything happen if I start Windows with the overclock and without increasing voltage?
