Pues eso… yo creo que si que se puede al igual que pasa con el ATA pero no estoy seguro de si hay retrocompatibilidad...

Sí hombre, claro que la hay. Al igual que puedes conectar un disco duro ATA133 en una controladora ATA100 o ATA66, puedes conectar un disco SATA300 a una controladora SATA150.
