¿Se puede conectar un TFT de 15 directamente a una bateria de 12V?

Buenas, la pregunta es como hacer que un monitor de 15" TFT se conecte directamente a una bateria de 12V. Tal es el caso para usar en un barco, caravana, etc…
He visto televisores TFT, y en las especificiaciones viene el consumo. 3,5 amperios y corriente de 12V. Vamos que en teoria si, pero... puedo hacerlo sin pasar por el transformador del monitor????.
