Deteccion insolita de los USB

Hola, queria preguntar si alguien podia darme alguna idea del por que mi equipo solamente me detecta los dispositivos USB si los conecto antes de arrancar el sistema, una vez he arrancado el sistema ya no me detecta ningun dispositivo USB que conecte al equipo.
Se trata de una placa base Gigabyte concretamente la GA-8IPE1000-G Rev 4.00 y el sistema operativo el XP SP2 con todas actualizaciones al dia, he formateado varias veces el equipo y siempre sin ningun resultado positivo.
