Error when working with control panel file irprops.cpl

Tengo un portátil nuevo acompañado de un cd con drivers. Lo he formateado e instalado windows xp professional. El problema aparece cuando instalo algun driver de los que viene en el cd mencionado. A partir de ese momento y despues de reiniciar, ya aparece siempre un mensaje de error al entrar en panel de control: "error al trabajar con archivo c<.windows/system32/irprops.cpl de panel de control". Ademas de ese, deja de funcionar la herramienta "buscar" y al abrir panel control->cuentas de usuario aparece un mensaje de error tipo prevencion de ejecucion de datos". Muchos otros fallos al abrir programas o herramientas de windows.
