          +1

He's going to have to do without a disk or stretch the budget, he has no other option.
The 6870 would be great for him, although he'll have to skimp a bit on the micro, everything is counterproductive xD

If I messed up the i5 thing but it doesn't matter, I was looking at an i3, which at a similar price would be the FX-4100 although I was happy with the i3 that day as it played games very well.

How good, I see I'm putting almost 100€ between the case and power supply, there obviously you can cut it to put the i5 and in the motherboard as well, but it's not very recommended. Even in the CPU you can cut it, that is a P67 with a Dual Core you can get from 130€, to put a better graphics card but I think it wouldn't be very recommended either.

The budget is very good for the price, well balanced and of quality, nothing junk. That for BF3 it might be a bit short but of course it's a game that to play it in ultra you need from 800€ (being something minimally balanced).

I also considered the i3 option, but I thought it would be a bit short, as he says he intends to play several modern games, including BF3 and if he messes up the system and loads it with processes (predictable) it will get a bit choked. Obviously if he follows that trend, an i5 will also get choked, but in any case he will get more out of a 6870 than the i3, even if it's a 2300. However, an i3 2100 with the 6850 would also be a good option, and that way he could put in the rest of the components without any problem.

              Regards

No no there is no problem, 2 cores 4 threads at 3.1GHz is more than enough for any game. I had the i3 530 with the 4870 and it was luxurious, I noticed little difference when I changed to the i5 2500K being of a new generation, I'll even tell you more, I spent months when it broke playing with only 1 core activated, damn Pedrín, and it played perfectly with about 10-20fps less XD but I played COD MW2 and similar games without any problem.

So nothing, the i3 with a 6870 would be perfect, which can spend 60€ more than the i5, but I wouldn't take it away from other things and less from the graphics card since BF3 is what needs it the most.

PD. So suddenly comparing the wprime of the i3 2100 with that of the i5 2300 there is a 33% difference in performance... that is, it's not going to solve its life either.

I thought the same as Silver, it's just that BF3 is not nonsense :ugly:

Another option is to get a P67X-UD3 and put another 6850 in it later. The i3 has the advantage of being able to change to an Iby x4 (it doesn't hurt to change a micro for 100 bucks but 150 does) but I would almost get a quad and change the graphics or set up Cross.

Edit. I thought you said the card for the ivy, for the cross I wouldn't spend, I would spend on a 2GB graphics card.

It would be the right thing, regardless of the processor, because it is clear that the 2GB ones perform better in these demanding games, but it costs more and a card for crossfire also, and I wouldn't skimp on the processor to a 2 core 2 thread one and an H61 motherboard for that.

Yes, the best option is to upgrade the graphics without cutting corners on the CPU. If you mount an i5 with a 2Gb graphics card, you can always borrow memory (or reuse it if you already have DDR3), which also saves you a hard drive and uses the built-in graphics, so by cutting corners here and there, you'd end up with a pretty decent system at its core. The idea is a good CPU+graphics card pairing, which is the main thing for gaming, although honestly, I think you'll end up stretching your budget or waiting a while while you save up, the idea of building half-way systems isn't very widespread ?

                      Best regards

The 2GB of memory will come in handy but it's more than 200€ that he can't spend right now given the budget. If we're going to ask for something, having 8GB of RAM would be great too. It's just that BF3 asks for everything... You have to scrape from somewhere.

Let him save a little :troll:

Well yes, it will be better for him in the long run, because assembling it in installments is a pain and besides, as time goes by, each platform should go down in price according to the new releases.
So, save money and don't despair, there will still be BF3 players online for a long time :troll:

If you wait, you will surely change the configuration to an Ivy, Z77 and 7850. With the one I gave you, if you change the i3 to the i5, which would cost 600€, you would have something pretty interesting left.
