Good afternoon, I have been given a laptop, and if I can fix it, I get to keep it, haha. What I don't understand at all is what's wrong with it. It starts up but before Windows starts, it's like the image freezes and the pixels turn off gradually until the laptop goes black but is still on (it doesn't overheat). I doubt it's the RAM and/or the BIOS battery. Any more ideas? Thanks, folks!

P.D.: Obviously, I can't even put a live CD in it or get into the BIOS

Why do you doubt it's the RAM? Because I would say it's a problem with the RAM or the graphics. Does it have a dedicated graphics chip?

oh, well I just changed the ram and it seems like it starts up, even Windows! but the graphics are completely dead, and changing it to a laptop I don't know if it's very viable. It's a Toshiba satellite a110-179. aaaaaaaish!!

At first glance, it looks like a graphic card or even a screen, but it's hard to decide without seeing it. Try connecting a monitor if it has a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port to see if it gives any signal. But if you say that Windows doesn't start, it's probably not it. Does it turn off with the charger plugged in without a battery?

nono, in the end I said that Windows starts up if but the image often goes out, then it comes back, etc.. it's 90% graphics, I don't know if it's viable to change it to a PC like this :wall:

Changing the graphics… very difficult, if it's integrated give it up, and if it's dedicated, and depending on the age of the pc very expensive or complicated to find the replacement.
