      Hello family.

It's been a long time since I got into building a computer from parts, but in recent weeks I've been bitten by the bug a bit, given that I need a new machine.

Anyway, let's get down to business.

The case is a Coolermaster 360 Elite.

The main reason is that I need the case to be desktop due to the configuration of the workstation where I'm going to build it, I know it would be better to have a large, well-ventilated tower, but space is what it is.

As a processor, I'm going to build an Amd Fx Series Fx-8150 3.6ghz 8x Black Edition, which I think is the most powerful thing available today.

The motherboard is an Asus Sabertooth 990fx Am3+

I'm going to put 32 Gb of G.skill Trident X Ddr3 2400 Pc3-19200 ram, for the simple reason that I need a lot of ram and I want it to be in 8 Gb modules... and as I have some money available, I'm going straight for the 32 Gb so I don't have to worry about expansions later.

Regarding cooling, this has been tricky for the simple reason that the case doesn't support a huge heatsink (which is what that processor would need), so after reading many reviews of low-profile heatsinks, I've decided on liquid cooling as the best option.

I've decided on the Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H70 Core, for several reasons:

1.- After researching on the internet for a while, I was able to see photos of that heatsink mounted in my case, which reassures me because I had doubts about whether it could fit easily, but apparently it does fit without problems.

2.- It won't clash with the ram, which has its own heatsinks and if I were to mount an air one, even a low-profile one, I would have to remove the heatsinks from some of the ram modules, which I didn't like at all.

3.- Liquid cooling seems like the best option for a case as compact as mine.

Regarding hard drives, I've been wanting to install an SSD for a while, so I think the right time is now, I've decided on the Corsair Force Series GT 120gb Sata3 SSD, to be able to have the operating system and programs installed on a fast machine, and as a secondary, to be able to store things I'm working on with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1tb Sata3.

To power all that stuff, I'm going to put an Aerocool Strike-x Power 800w, I could put a 1000w one, but, as you'll see below, it's not necessary.

The graphics cards (because it has two) will be two GeForce 210, which may seem like a "crap" graphics card for such a mess, but the explanation is simple, this computer won't be used for gaming or for moving 3d graphics much, with that it's more than enough for what this machine will be used for. It has two because it has three 26-inch monitors connected.

And what am I going to use it for?, basically for work and for "daily use", for that use I don't need such a beast, but for work I do (well, it's not essential, but having more than enough never hurts).

      BIG QUESTIONS:

1.- Is there any physical difference between the AM3 and AM3+ socket, more than anything it's about the cooling issue, I see many heatsinks compatible with AM3, but none mention that it's compatible with AM3+ and I'm not sure if there's any difference that forces me to look for a heatsink that's specifically compatible with AM3+ or if directly being compatible with AM3 also means it's compatible with AM3+ (I'm talking about heatsinks exclusively).

2.- Is that power supply enough or would I need something more powerful?, I say this because I think that with those two graphics cards I don't think I'll need more, but I'm all ears if it's not the case.

Opinions, criticisms and advice are accepted, in fact, they are more than welcome.

        Hello, welcome to the forum

32gb of RAM is a lot of gigs, can I ask what you are going to use it for? video editing? I will make sure to put a 64-bit OS on it at least :ugly:

I have no idea about RL, but there are members here in the forum who know a lot and they will surely have something to say

As for the SSD, to each their own. I think we are quite fans of the Crucial M4 128gb here in the forum. I just got one for my pc and it is amazing how fast it is. I think that as of today, according to the comparisons, Samsung or Crucial are the best options in terms of reliability and performance. Regarding the secondary, many forum users use the WD Caviar Black of 1 or 2 TB, although I suppose the Seagate is also a good option

I do not know if the aerocool PSUs are especially good. I just bought a corsair 850W modular and I am very happy with it, it does not make noise and does not get hot. If you are going to work for a long time with the computer, make sure it has a gold certification and enough warranty. I think that with 800W you are more than enough, but let's see what others say.

on the nvidia page they say that the Gt 210 consumes 30.5W, it heats up to a max of 105C and they recommend a PSU of 300W. I take this into account when ventilating the equipment and buying the PSU (I do not know how much that FX will consume)

        Regards!

Haha, yes, I know it's a lot of gigs, I actually started thinking about 16, but it's always happened to me that when I've bought ram at a good price and a while later I went for more it had gone up brutally in price so I've preferred to go straight for the maximum.

One of the functions where I'm going to use the computer the most is loading plans, sometimes plans of a couple of gigs between one thing and another, so it needs a lot of ram, right now I have eight gigs and more than once the poor thing has complained about lack of memory.

Could you point me to any of the SSD comparisons, I've been looking but can't find any that satisfy me.

Well, I have it assembled and working now, the truth is that it's impressive how well it works and how fast the jodio is.

Just a tip for anyone assembling Gskill ram, be very careful because the heat sinks CUT LIKE RAZORS, I have two nice cuts on my thumbs from squeezing the ram.

I see a lot of new purchases… are you scared of the 3% increase in VAT XD Fassou, another gaming PC, I could put the 6870 in the one below maybe, sorry for butting into the thread, I just changed my monitor and another 570 is on the way so I can take it with me comfortably, I'll put a picture up when everything is ready, upload some of your pretty rigs I like to look.
Next step is to remove the SSD and put 2 in RAID and I think I'll be happy for a while XD

Well, I have to get busy taking photos of the equipment I have around here (I have six and with the laptop, seven) and put them all in the signature, should I put the photos here or in the "afotos" thread?

I'm going to look at the signature thing, to see if I remember everything I have set up and where…

I think it's better in the photo thread so people can see it and maybe get inspired, everyone likes photos XD.

Don't put everything in the signature, there can't be more than 4 lines and the character limit is also easy to reach xD
By the way, link here the photo thread that I also put a few of the new ones ?

Hehe, the GTX 570 pulls well, huh? ? So an SLI is going to be the cherry on top, man. I was considering doing an SLI of GTX 470s, but it doesn't convince me
