Sylver, what time are you answering? :ugly:

Anyway, I'm a bit disadvantaged at these hours... it depends on the store where you want to buy it. I have a Black Caviar of 2 TB but it cost me 90€ a year and a half ago I think... second-hand... but new... sealed.

In total, it's a very good disk but I wouldn't pay what it's worth right now for it. I would buy any disk like this: http://www.pccomponentes.com/seagate_barracuda_7200_14_2tb_sata3_64mb.html

Which has 2TB and you will think it's a world compared to the 200 Gigas disk. Any current disk that is not one like the Green from WD will seem like a rocket compared to your disk so don't complicate your life buying a black Caviar.

I could ask the same thing, couldn't I amd125? :troll:

The fellow is right, the caviar black are indeed very expensive right now, but since the floods in Thailand that's what's available... Maybe looking for a second-hand one would help, if not you can always go for a Seagate like the one amd125 shows you.

Migue the 2TB drives have a much better price/mega. If you can afford a 128GB SSD for the main games shortly after and you don't want RAID you can get a Caviar Green. It will sound messy but, if you store important data I would get a couple of Seagate 7200.14 2TB in RAID 1 and a 128GB SSD for main games OS and the rest of the software, even if it has to be in installments. It's quite expensive but when you have it you can forget about updating drives for a good season xD

If it's not important data I would get a Caviar Green 2TB and when you have 100 euros more an SS of 128. If you need more than 128GB for OS + soft + main games, and you're not going to store important data, get a Seagate 7200.14 2TB (for a little more you get double) and partition.

With €100 in my pocket, and coming from a 200GB HDD, I would buy a Seagate 7200RPM 2TB without hesitation :sisi:, trying to buy it in a nearby store to save on shipping ;D

If it has to be online, at PCC and Coolmod they have the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB SATA3 64MB for €99 + Shipping

              Regards!

P.D.: Leave the SSDs for later, you'll get too used to them ?

                @Sylver:

                Hello

For speed and performance, a Black SSD is the way to go, the Blue is also a good option but the Black will make you notice the speed much more.

As you already know, the SSD idea is the best, because if you want almost zero access times, you won't be able to get them any other way. To be honest, what will always slow down your computer the most is the hard drive, that's why an SSD is the best option in that sense.

                Best regards

So for now the Black, although I'm considering the 2TB Barracuda option. The Blue is out of the question ? I would like the SSD, but I need storage space...

Well I think I have made up my mind. After seeing so many opinions in the end I don't know which one will be faster, which tells me that perhaps even if one is faster than the other, there shouldn't be much difference.

I'll almost go for the Seagate, I'm more drawn to having 2TB, and of the Caviar Black I have seen people (especially in the reviews of pccomponentes) complain that it makes noise.

What I am sure of is that either one will satisfy me.

I don't know if you agree, thanks!

I have already told you that I have a 2TB Black Caviar, but I would not pay what it is worth currently. I think the Seagate is a good choice.

The Black Caviar makes more noise, but it is not a blender either. After having two Raptors and this disk, I think the noise is normal :ugly:

Here I am again, already with money in hand and about to buy it, but yesterday I came across this…

TR Blog Seagate Barracuda 2 TB, two versions of the same disk - TR Blog

In the image of pccomponentes of that disk, this groove does not appear, what do you think? Can anyone who has bought it recently confirm which version it is? Best regards

I sent them a ticket and they replied with the following:

                              ''Hi Miguel,

My colleagues tell me that this model is the three-plate one.

For any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us, we will always be happy to help you.

Regards and thank you for trusting us.''

                              So that's the ''bad'' model:ffu:

Are you still recommending that option? It will give less performance but I think it won't be that dramatic, right?

                              Edit:

I asked at 4frags, and this is what they told me:

                              ''Good morning Miguel,
I find the information you have shared with us very interesting, so
I think we have been lucky, since the 2TB disks I have left here are the ones that have the notch or deeper mark and therefore, according to
the link you provided, the good ones are the ones that have 2
plates of 1TB each. If you are interested, do not delay in making the reservation,
because I do not know if the next ones that arrive will be the same, although it is
                              likely.''

So I will buy it there then, and it's also a bit cheaper, in fact, I just ordered it. Regards and thank you for your patience. I will let you know as soon as it arrives.

                                  Unfortunately, here I am again.
I have received the 1TB dual drive model as I told you.

But when I run it through HD Tune or Crystal disk the speeds are very low! In HD Tune it gives a minimum of 1MB and the maximum it gives is almost 200, but only at the beginning, then it completely deflates.

                                  I have seen this…
New hard drive with very low speed transfers (solved) » Dr PC Barcelona, computer technician at home

In solution 1, I can't see those values anywhere in the registry to delete them, or I don't know how to look at them (I right-click and modify…)

The BIOS thing of changing the hard drive to ACHI doesn't work either, I activate the option and when I start Windows it gives me a blue screen and restarts, I have to put it back to IDE against my will.

Solution 2, changing the SATA port, things improve a little, but not much.

And I still don't understand solution 3 very well, I'm still investigating.

                                  Has this happened to you?

I attach a screenshot of HD Tune

Considering that my motherboard supports Sata II, does this seem more normal to you? Adding that it's partitioned into 1TB, 500GB and 300GB (just in case it helps)

It already has an average of 110, although I think there are too many low peaks, I don't know what else to do :ffu:

That's what I got by testing 3 times on a different Sata port :ugly:

In some test it has reached up to 200 clavados as a maximum, with similar results in average, and in error scan it has no errors.

PD: you scare me Obione :nono:

Edit: I add the test with the old one I still have installed, a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 Sata I of 200GB

Hello everyone, it's 5:16 in the morning and I'm still here :ugly:

                                        I finally did the following:

I went to My Computer, right-click on the hard drive, properties, and I uncheck the box that said…
''Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties''

I did that process on the three partitions I created and look at the result in the attachment...

It looks pretty cool, I don't know what the hell I did by unchecking that box, but now I'm going to sleep, I don't feel like looking it up. Let's hope it lasts :wall:

                                        Goodbye and good night ;D

                                          La magia del indizado xD
Tomo nota, es interesante saber que el indizado causa esos altibajos en las velocidades de transferencia…
Aquí otro que se va a dormir :ugly:
                                          Saludos y buenas noches!!
