Problem after BIOS update on Toshiba Satellite A110-160
-
Hello,
I've had a small problem, I've been working with PCs and Macs for many years, formatting, disassembling and upgrading whenever work allows it, so I'm not a novice, my problem is that when I opened the Toshiba laptop's bios file for an update it got stuck, at no point did I click update, as I know this laptop supports vista I installed windows 7 home basic, I left everything polished, then I went to get the drivers which I found on the manufacturer's website, after having everything ready it goes and breaks, the screen stays black the buttons light up the reader works but it doesn't detect the bios… this has never happened to me in many years...:wall:
please if anyone could give me a hand I would be very grateful.
Pd: by the way greetings to all I'm new to the forum.

When you ask for help, it is best to explain the sequence prior to the failure, so clarify if you reinstalled the OS and finally updated the BIOS, or if what you are saying are just the plans you had for later.
In any case, try to start the computer by pressing the BIOS access key, in case it is a simple change in the HDD controller configuration.
Salu2!

It doesn't show absolutely nothing on the screen at startup?
If it doesn't, you'll have to look in the Toshiba documentation for how to reset the BIOS or try updating it again by downloading the appropriate BIOS update program and the latest BIOS from the Toshiba website.
If you're lucky you won't need to reinstall the system.

thank you very much for responding… but the truth is that I don't know how to start with this bios thing... I know that I need to know what model of bios I have... but if someone could help me by explaining the steps to follow or some info on where to find what I'm looking for... on top of that the laptop is my sister-in-law's sister's...:wall:

I think I already know what the problem is… I put a BIOS that I shouldn't have… but I've searched on the Toshiba website and I can't find it, even using the search engine and the model doesn't appear, and neither do the drivers or the BIOS...
here I leave the BIOS that I think I put because I don't think it got installed:

ok, the problem came after looking for the drivers I got the model wrong and installed a BIOS that wasn't... or so I think.. because now I search for the specific model on the web and it doesn't appear, plus I'm annoyed because only one model A110 appears but its operating system is Windows 95 when it came with Windows XP Media Center...

On the Toshiba driver download page, put:
Product type: Old models
Family: Satellite
Series: Satellite A Series
Model: Satellite A110 (PSAB0) (there is another A110, you will have to try)
Driver type: BIOS update2 updates appear. Have you tried them?

I think you found the bios friend, thanks!!! but how do I load the bios if the laptop doesn't work…??? I mean, only the reader works and the screen is black...
now I'm trying this:
Note: This procedure is for Phoenix BIOS`es only and in
most cases the USB Stick might not work.1. Unrar CRISDISK
2. Take your bios file and rename it to BIOS.WPH. This means you also
must rename the extension of your bios file to.WPH So, if you have
a bios file that is 8956.rom, then you must rename it BIOS.WPH.3. After renaming your bios file, copy and paste into the CRISDISK folder
and overwrite the existing BIOS.WPH file when asked.4. Insert a Floppy Disk into your Floppy Drive and wait for Windows to
recognize it.5. Right click on CRISDISK.bat file and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Follow
the onscreen instructions to create a Phoenix Bios Crisis Recovery Disk.6. Remove the battery (if any) unplug the power cord from the computer.
7. Hold down: Fn+B or WinKey+B (On some new Acer Laptop's Fn+Esc and on some new
Fujitsu Siemens Laptop's Fn+F) and while holding plug the computer
in to power (do not plug the battery) and pres the power button.8. Now you should hear the flopy drive working, hold the keys for a
while and then let go.7. Leave the computer for at least 10 min. and if the computer does not
restart it self turn the power down.8. Plug the battery and the power sorce and if everything went OK the
computer should start normaly.Pd: I'm waiting to see if there's any luck...

it has worked!!! the bios is now starting, but it is asking for a password. does anyone know how to crack it??? or know any trick to make it not come up??? or is it necessary to take it to the service center???

you can now close the topic at the end and I managed to skip the bios pass with a few simple steps explained on youtube, I won't put it here in case it's illegal.
regards and thanks to those who replied. ;D
