Problems with AHTEC XFL92+
-
Hello,
I've had that same laptop since at least it came out and it's been raining a lot since then.
I just have to say that it has always worked like a charm. With XP, Windows7, Linux, etc...
It has hardly given me any problems but nothing that couldn't be fixed.
The thing is that yesterday it broke
but I'm not sure if it can be fixed:It turns out that while in Windows, strange lines suddenly started appearing on the screen... something that already looked like a virus or hardware... until a blue screen came up and those lines appeared too...
So I rebooted into Linux with a live cd... and more of the same, after 1 min with it, lines started appearing...
And now nothing comes up even at PC startup.... I can't get to the BIOS, when I turn it on the screen stays GRAY... like with some kind of stain...
Honestly I think either the GRAPHICS or the PROCESSOR has broken...
Is this fixable? Can I replace either of the two components?
For now I've bought another newer laptop, because I need it to work... but I'd like to know if I could fix the old one. For now I'm thinking of buying an external HDD case and putting the HDD that this PC had in it... at least that way I'll save the hard drive... and the rest is to sell on eBay or something like that the RAM modules (2+1 gb of DDR2)...
Suggestions?

Clean the heatsink, and put some picture of those stripes so we can see them.

I can't upload any images because it won't even turn on now...
The screen stays grey as soon as I turn it on (nothing comes up, not even the bios).
But it's not grey all over the screen, as on the right you can see like two stains... (the effect is like it has water inside... but it doesn't... eh)...
They told me at PCBOX that they can "solder" it and it will last me 2 months....
But on inet they told me that I can try changing the graphics card but it's very hard to get one... (considering that I'm not very sure how to change it or if it will be difficult)...
If I can, I'll upload a photo of what it looks like
