Tablets x86 a $99

The CEO of Intel has stated that in a few weeks, OEMs will start offering tablets at $99, Haswell laptops at $299, and tablet-laptop hybrids at $349.

Considering that the cheapest x86 tablet on the market right now costs around €350, the price drop is going to be brutal.

A distraction tactic to prevent indecisives from waiting for an x86 product instead of opting for an ARM?

Tactic or confidence, we will know during the Christmas campaign.

You hear a lot of news like this, and then, at least in our market, one after another.

I haven't tried x86 tablets, but if it's possible to install any Windows or Linux, the topic would be interesting. Mostly because you could make up for their supposed lack of power with lightweight desktops.

Let's see how it turns out.

For tablets and hybrids they will probably use Bay Trails. As for laptops, I have no idea, but a haswell monocore with an hd4xxx would be worth a lot for that price.

If for 99 you move any decent linux desktop distro I would buy it.

If not, little novelty. There are mediocre arm tablets for that price. And for a little more they are already more than decent, let's see how things evolve. But if it's only for windows they have nothing to do with me xD

Let's see if they come up with a good distro for tablets, because Ubuntu doesn't convince me, that would be good.

The news comes a year late, but it's finally here. HP will be selling $99 tablets and $199 laptops, all powered by Intel processors running Windows 8, within a month or two.

It has been reading on the Intel Celeron laptop processor and I stopped reading :wall:

But well, we will have to wait for the performance tests. I suppose that not much micro is needed to run Windows 8 decently and it will be optimized.

Celeron mounts the same cores as the i, without HT and turbo, but for the price they are a good option. A dual haswell for 40€ I see very well, it will not have power problems, the problem is if it mounts the celeron with atom cores.

I am still waiting to see what happens. Although for the moment I am very happy with Android.

And it remains to be seen whether there will be mandatory use of Windows or if we will be able to use distros that we like.

A Celeron with a Haswell or a Broadwell is no slouch. For that price, they are devices that can offer a lot of performance.

And even if they have Atoms: a Bay-Trail or a Cherry-Trail with 4 cores (like the ones that have been used in tablets so far) offer decent performance for most tasks.

I want them to release something like the Lenovo Yoga but affordable, right now a 13" 1080 with a Celeron Haswell 4gb of RAM and a 128gb SSD should cost around 400€.
