      Hello

      I intend to build a PC from bits and pieces. A Pentium IV motherboard with an 80GB SATA hard drive that worked on another machine with Windows XP
      When I start it up, two seconds after the Windows logo appears, it restarts, and always does so. In failsafe mode, it does the same thing. As it starts to boot, it doesn't seem to me that it's a physical problem with the motherboard or something specific to SATA drivers, but….
      I suppose it's because that Windows has some drivers that don't correspond to the motherboard and perhaps other elements it has now.

      I could reinstall XP from scratch, but I would like to keep the system already installed so as to keep all the updates, which are no longer available.

      I ask you the following, to see if you can help me

      - Am I correct that the radical change in hardware is the reason why Windows won't boot? Could it be the drivers specific to the motherboard? If not, what is it?

      • Is there any way to fix it while keeping the updates?

      thanks and regards

      @nastyboy:

      -¿Estoy en lo cierto en que el cambio radical de hardware es el motivo por el que no me arranca windows?. ¿Serán los drivers propios de la placa?. En caso contrario ¿qué es?.

      • ¿Hay algún modo de solucionarlo manteniendo las actualizaciones?

      Sí, se reinicia por el cambio de hardware, y la solución es hacer una instalación de reparación, pero no creo que conserve las actualizaciones.

      Salu2!

        First explain yourself better.

        Second do not duplicate threads… if it is not in the appropriate section a moderator will already change it. Fixed

        Third it is the most normal thing in the world that since it is another Windows board it does not start correctly.

        Finally my recommendation is that you reinstall Windows and if the system fails or you have the same problem it is that there is something wrong with your configuration… something that does not necessarily have to be the motherboard.

          @Fassou:

          Yes, it restarts because of the hardware change, and the solution is to do a repair installation, but I don't think it will keep the updates.

          Salu2!

          well, and if I do that, will windows update offer me XP updates again??, probably not, right?

            bueno, y si lo hago, windows update volvera a ofrecerme las actualizaciones de XP??, seguramente no, ¿verdad?

            You will be offered as far as the support reaches… To this day, I update the XP that I install from scratch, up to the latest updates that Microsoft released in its day (discontinued in April 2014 if I remember correctly).

              how nice, somewhere I read that when support ends, the existing updates are not available either
              So the best thing is to install SP3 and let it update…..whatever it needs to update... buff how many hours!!!

                Not too many, it depends on the internet connection and the equipment in question ?

                  Install WXP SP3 from scratch, you save yourself problems and time.
                  As for support, well, it officially ended a long time ago, but **it is possible to continue it until 2020**.
                  To do this, create a text file and write the following:
                  Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSYTEM\\WPA\\PosReady] "Installed"=dword:00000001 ```Then save it with any name and extension **.reg**, and add it to the registry. Edit: Note, this solution **is unofficial** and is only for 32-bit versions. The 64-bit one is a bit more complicated.

                  ...me lo dicen las voces...
