Well now that I know who you are, thanks to Google, I can tell you several things about your ways:
1º You express yourself terribly, with very important spelling mistakes and with some inappropriate line breaks.
2º You explain yourself terribly, no one knows what you intend or where what you expose comes from.
3º And last this is NOT a "how to" forum for "dummies" it's about hardware, learn to use search engines to solve your doubts and specialized forums according to the topic.

On the subject in question it seems to me somewhat absurd to work with a file of local domain names, those of the operator or Google are much more agile, broad and updated, and for security there are many other more versatile ways to protect oneself.

My greetings to forospyware where it seems that they do not give adequate answers to your questions :troll:

I had to look at the comments on the forospyware page to understand what you meant and even then I'm not sure... but based on what I think I've managed to translate from your message, I think Fassou hit the nail on the head.

The problem is that when your router can't find the page you're looking for, it sends it to the operator who has a web search procedure, which means the results jump out at you. I don't know if that can be turned off in the case of Ono, but it's a matter of asking their technical support.

Regarding resolving names using the hosts file, it's quite inconvenient because you can have a thousand changes and new pages that bother you and you'll have to keep modifying it ad eternum. Also, you have to make sure in the network adapter configuration that the hosts file is consulted in resolving names (I don't remember if it's enabled by default).

In any case, it would be a better solution what Cobito proposes and install some kind of parental control product that allows for more convenient management of the sites you want or don't want to see, in addition to being able to update automatically to block content of specific types (advertising, porn, viruses) without having to touch a file by hand. Certainly the hosts file is faster but I don't think the complexity is worth it.

But it's just my opinion of course...

NOTE: Is this something from the LOGSE or more recent?

First of all, I have to thank you for your responses. Then I will apologize for my bad spelling and way of expresarme.no I know what happened to me, I am a person who expresses myself well verbally.

I also sincerely apologize if I have offended anyone, nothing is further from my intention, we all make mistakes sometimes, I believe that the important thing is to recognize your mistake and try to correct it. Although this does not belong to this forum, I do it this way.

The problem I had is already solved, thanks to a very polite, understandable and I believe altruistic colleague, behaviors that many people lack. The problem was that I could not block pages, advertising, etc., through the hosts file, but as I have said before, this is solved.

That being said, I want to respond to BM4M, regarding the term HOW TO, I am not some fusilanime, who uses the forums in a desperate and anxious way in search of alms, I only resort to the forums when I can't find what I'm looking for. I also want to refer to the term DUMIES, these terms are applied by BUFFoons like YOU, who think that because you have supposed knowledge in this matter, you are above those who do not have it, so, in a derogatory tone and using anglicisms as a source of lucidity, you show me that you are one of those people who make this world a little more sad and unjust. I will tell you one thing, the key to making this world a little better is found in these concepts, EMPATHY, ALTRUISM, PHILANTHROPY, among others. SOMETHING THAT YOU LACK...

          Regards.

Hello, could you tell me the solution that your friend offered you for the problem?

The hosts file stopped blocking me from pages since I restored the system, even the ad blockers are failing me. I have been searching for the solution on the Internet for a good while but to tell the truth it is not something easy to find, I registered in the forum just so I could ask you.

                      What a big comeback ?
                      @AbelNightroad26:

If it's something specific and it's for all the computers, the ideal thing is to block it on the router (if it gives the option). If not, on each computer with a parental control it's much better. As they said 4 years ago in response to the question, search the Internet for how they work. Besides, most operating systems already have that function.

                          What a great idea ?

If it's something specific and is for all computers, the ideal thing is to block it on the router (if it gives the option). If not, on each computer with parental control is much better, as they said 4 years ago in response to the question, search on the internet how they work, besides, most operating systems already have that function.

I know those methods, in case it's about several computers it is certainly more efficient than using the hosts file, but in my case I only want to block sites on my laptop, besides it would be a problem if in the future I wanted to change my router for some reason. I also tend to use the hosts file because it is versatile, it is a small file that only weighs a few kilobytes, it is easy for me to make a backup of it.

I appreciate everyone who responded to me.

                          Solution:

For some passing reader like me who comes across this topic, I have already found the solution to my doubt, in my case it was a problem with the credentials or permissions of the hosts file. By right-clicking on hosts and going to:

Properties > Security > Group or user names

I needed the name %COMPUTERNAME%\\Users and I just had to add it to solve the problem.

Note: This problem could be solved simply by changing my hosts file to a backup I had saved previously, but it didn't work for me because it always "replaced" the file, it is better to delete the hosts file from the etc directory and place the backup in its place. Keep in mind that this is only one of the possible solutions, since the reasons why the hosts file doesn't work can be several.
